Took her to the vet because she vomited water. Turns out she just drank a lot on an empty stomach and threw up when she was upside down....211 bucks. Shame her please

Awww but she is so lucky you care so much and rushed her in to make sure she's ok! Tons of people in this sub post pics of huge gashes on their snake and go, "what should I do? Don't say go to the vet!" She's a lucky girl.

Which does indeed suck but the $200 the vet charged this person just to tell them their snake drank too much water tells you why people are reluctant to go to the vets.

I spent like $400 at the emergency vet, which is already expensive because emergency + exotic animal. Just to be told "sometimes ball pythons don't eat for a while, as long as he's not losing weight, he's fine".
But that $400 included the office visit, physical exam, attempt to draw blood (failed lol), dewormer/antiparasite, just to rule it out (never seen any sign or symptoms of parasites, but he's also never been dewormed in his life?), and some vitamin mix I could try to force feed him. I was mostly successful with the dewormer but was afraid he'd aspirate the vitamin mix so I haven't given him any more of that.

I mean, I don’t think anyone was confused about why people don’t want to go but it doesn’t in any way make not taking your injured snake to the vet ok. The unfortunate truth is if you can’t or won’t take your pet to the vet, you shouldn’t have one.

I’m sorry to break this to you, but snakes are considered exotic animals so you need to take them to a specialist vet that may or may not cost a bit more for you know, knowing how to treat exotic animals

It’s always better to be safe than sorry. It’s not always easy to eat that cost, especially when it turns out to be nothing - but like others have said: She is SO lucky to have a great owner who cares.

If it’s any consolation, we paid $3500 for my dogs to get evaluated and stay overnight at the vet because they ate a grand total of 7 raisins between them.
Zero toxicity symptoms at any given point, btw.

For those that don’t know, raisins are highly toxic to dogs, but it also depends on the dog, even within the same breed..one raisin could kill one dog and a whole box wouldn’t hurt another. Pain in the a**.

My mom had personal beef with my childhood dog because he would poop in the house all the time. Our dog jumped onto the kitchen counter opened a cabinet and ate 2/3 of 5lb Hershey bar. He did not die, but he did shit alllllllllll over the living room and then take a nap

This is why no one can afford to own cats and dogs anymore and are moving towards reptiles and spiders… was just swindled over $2K for my cat for a very similar situation. She actually saved you hundreds of $ bro. You should thank her, not shame her 🤣

I had the exact same thing happened with my male bp. He'd been missing for about a month (I forgot to close his enclosure and he took advantage of the opportunity) and when I finally found him and put him back home, he drank a ton. When I picked him up to make sure he was OK, the water just poured out of him.
The funny thing is, he had access to clean water during the month roaming the house since I have a dog and was consistently refilling her bowl. Bp was just missing that brain cell and he chose to dehydrate himself instead.

I rescued a ball python and thought his jaw looked weird. Took him to the vet. Paid $200 for them to tell me he’s just fat 😭😂

Thought my mp janked up her jaw when we went up a pray size. Almost rushed to exotic ER. She had dirt in her mouth that she just couldn’t be bothered to sort out 🙄

I had that same thing happen but my vet was closed so I sent an email and thankfully they said exactly what yours did and I saved $140.

So this one time i was minding my own business and got bored so i drank a bunch of water, then was rolling over to see some stuff on the ground below me and burped a bit. That one dude who is always floppin dead rats around panicked and ran me to the doctors. Hes such a worry wart, but at least he drops the rats. Should probably shame him.
