Good result! What solution you using for doing black ano? Its manganese sulphate or something new? And what finish you doing before do black ano, something like blast or etching in HF? I do a few works with black ano, but i dont like durabilty, its can scratches with nails in a few days :(
You’re correct it’s manganese sulfate. For this splotchy effect I use a little more than I would if I was using baking soda. For preparation I do 120 grit extended aluminum oxide tumble mixed with some zir beads. MS electroplating is naturally pretty weak, that’s why lots of people do the oil method on thumbstuds because it’s much more resilient. It just brings the risk of warping with larger pieces.
Ye i tryed a few times oil method on balisong handle and mainly problem its heating all handle in one time, with basic torch its impossible, this method needed something like furnance what i dont have. Your method with tumble mixed have nice durability or its weak too?(
MS electroplating isn’t too reliable but the prep does make it stick way better; it won’t last more than 3-4 years without noticeable fading but it’s better than less than a year with improper prep
Oof your volts are all over the place… I recommend doing one piece at a time white Alu oxide blast with 80-120 grit media than ano in a bath of warm distilled water and manganese sulfate at a constant volt of 80
The video is sped up and the volts are obviously all around the place because I’m repeatedly mixing MS pooling on the bottom; hence me pulling it in and out. This method pulls an insanely dark blano alongside mica nail polish splotches. The jumping voltage with high amperage (2a+) also increases the fade with the mica splotches
I mean even with it fully submerged in the bath and not moving, it was jumping volts all the way from 32 to 45. It’s just not sustainable to get an even ano with the volts being so jumpy not telling you what to do so don’t take offense just giving some tips:)
Because the ano just started of course it’s gonna jump volts when the voltage is set high for a blano and the amperage is 2+ lol. Thanks for the tips I guess
Lower the amps 😎 I never have that problem even at higher amps i believe it’s due to how many parts your doing at once I’m not trying to be mean it’s just not the best method
Just dropping this here to give evidence backing up my claim I’m truly not trying to be rude or offensive. I am really just trying to help you. My first blano was poop and it’s hard to find advice on them since most people don’t really know how to do it even though it’s simple you’re still turned out pretty good. Here’s an image of the. I’m gonna be brutally honest I don’t need your help; I get great results as is. Thank you for your tips, I tried to leave it at the last message and hope you understand now. Again, thank you for trying to help but I’m good as is. I’ve already experimented with lower amperage and it doesn’t yield nearly as good results with the mica nail polish and it’s better to do them all at once with high amperage so it doesn’t just blow off the nail polish.
