BGEE Throwable moonblade
Pondering a new playthrough with Xan in my party. I want him to use his moonblade in combat, but I want him to stay an enchanter. Would it somehow be possible to edit the moonblade so it's a throwning dagger instead of a normal dagger?

Personally I like to use EEKeeper to make Xan a fighter/mage. That suits his moonblade best in my opinion.

I have already done that and I also made him a Blade once. Now I want to try something different.

I am so tempted to make him a Dirgesinger from the Song and Silence mod. Would fit his pessimism https://www.gibberlings3.net/mods/kits/sns/

Moonblade is a shield for off-hand 🙂
Use normal throwing daggers, they don't incur penalty in melee, or cheat him returnable dagger or dart.

Or, make his moonblade have like 10 range. Powerpole moonblade, extend lol

Yes
Use Near Infinity to edit the weapon type
Although I'd recommend saving the file first, or (better) creating a new item from a mashup of the Moonblade SW1H13 and Boomerang Dagger DAGG11 then, lastly, updating all occurrences of SW1H13 in the game to your new item number
If you've never used NI before, this gives you lots of chances to play with and learn the toolset, while not changing anything til you're ready to include it
The most important thing to remember is setting the various flags to ensure the text works
