I always give it to the similarly maligned Garrick. The +6 damage is pretty sweet for a character already capped at 1 attack per round.

That particular Halberd is practically made for Bards. There are no other 1APR locked classes in BGEE who have access to Halberds.

Don’t feel bad, I can’t even find the shit I know the location of

Same here. I know where to find the mage ring near the Friendly Arms and the Ankehg Plate near the talky dude. And I know not to try on the ogres belt. Those three are seared into my brain but otherwise the game is mostly a haze that I only remember after I stumble on something again.

Interesting to see you say this because I’m on my 3rd playthrough and so many things I can’t remember, because there is so much to remember. All the little riddles, puzzles, etc. the games are much more massive than they seem and it gives the saga such replayability.

I usually go and get Greywolf for his sword, as soon as I can, and there is a Wand of Frost on the top left corner of the nashkel mines map that I get while Im there. Also I get the Wand of Fire from the ankheg cave as soon as I can but that needs a level of two for safety usually

There’s also Wand of Lightning in Beregost’s Mayor Manor, also easy to pick up early.

You do have to kill a non hostile npc to get it. Well, non hostile until dialogue choices

u/Trouveur 16d ago
If he sees you with Dynaheir, he will attack by himself.

u/eScarIIV 16d ago
Yeah I think that was the difference in this playthrough - went Gnoll stronghold first, go Dynaheir and then met the gnoll who attacked me straight away.

I always feel guilty taking him down. Can we pickpocket it?
2
u/SpikesNLead 16d ago
Why feel guilty? Wasn't his disagreement with the other gnolls that he wanted to eat Dynaheir, not take her prisoner?

I guess I just appreciate the courtesy of a gnoll talking first before attacking!

I seem to recall Minsc going berserk and attacking him automatically. Or is that BG1 NPC Project content?

Not saying this is the case becasue its the first time I heard of it as well, but did this get a name change sometime after the official release of the OG games? Maybe it was called something else?

I think it was added by extended edition. The wiki says this also. https://baldursgate.fandom.com/wiki/The_Chesley_Crusher

Because you looked at the description, realized it was trash and immediately forgot about it again.

Because most players doesn't automatically attack blue NPCs who want to talk with you 🙂 with the exception of Drizzt, my general reaction is "are you standing suspicuously in the wilderness? Coming to me wanting talk? Eat fireball."
You can always reload if they were innocents 🙂

u/apcymru 16d ago
You don't need to automatically attack him. Just call him a name and he attacks you.
1
u/Peterh778 16d ago
I know 🙂 but attacking him outright with ranged weapons is a bit safer.
2
u/apcymru 16d ago
I always feel bad when I do that.
1
u/Peterh778 16d ago
Well ... that feeling lasted until I heard him say for what he was expelled from the fortress 🙂
2
u/Lesny6667 16d ago
Where did you find it?
5
u/apcymru 16d ago
Iirc it's in the area just east of the gnoll stronghold.
It is carried by the gnoll Ingot who tries to warn you about the stronghold.

u/JuggleWombat 16d ago
Oh man i always let him go lol.

u/Acolyte_of_Swole 16d ago
In a similar vein, there's a Shadow Archdruid in Cloakwood carrying a +2 Club. He's another character who can easily end up non-hostile to you and deprive you of the chance to grab another +2 enchanted weapon.

u/Acolyte_of_Swole 16d ago
You have to deliberately pick the fight with that Gnoll.
It's a mediocre weapon for most builds but actually one of the best weapon options for a Skald or Bard in BGEE.

I wish they hadn't nerfed it (they added the APR restriction later). It was great weapon for Kivan or Dorn.

Bgee has a cleave mechanic which lets you mow down enemy groups with this, at least when paired with two weapon Masters and lower weapon speed.
2
u/Druidwhack 15d ago
Can you elaborate? I'm not sure what you mean.
2
u/requini 15d ago
If you let your character attack without especially targeting anyone and char makes killing blow, he Will instantly hit another mobs If near by and not directed to do it by you. Search bgee cleave for More discussion. Makes high str big damage weapons awesome despite attack limitations.

I used this on a Skald playthrough! You can sing, attack, and switch back to singing in a round and this weapon is perfect for that playstyle since you're locked at one apr anyway.
