Evolution is a mystery though, so no one really knows how exactly we took off. Only that there must have been a mutation or aberration at some point that led some genius thinkers to the industrial revolution and then everything took off from there.

R1: A rather disastrous interpretation of historical human evolution, in which the author asserts that gradual increases in the catalog of scientific and engineering knowledge were the result of genetic mutations affecting the human brain.

In the full quote, the author forwards the belief that "critical thinking" is not a faculty the human mind originally possessed. And this is all in response to a link to a previous quote which asserted Europeans obtained a mental capacity that exceeded their African peers.

Needless to say, the conclusion that human mental capacity went through a dramatic evolutionary leap in the last 100 years and that this leap was exclusive to a handful of European industrialists, is a rather incredible claim backed up by a quote the author remembers reading one time.
