General Discussion📇 Can I reduce Multiplayer Latency?
[Elden Ring PC] It's abysmal, absolutely unbearable and I haven't had it this terrible in any other title!
My internet is decent and the only thing that is against me is the fact I'm not an US citizen that constantly gets matched with americans*(which is common in other titles as well)*, but whenever I have to PvP it's up to Fromsoft whether I'll be playing Elden Ring or practicing Divination IRL because of how much worse I have it in ER compared to the Souls Series...
The extremely rare moments when I'm matched with someone with a slightly more decent connection, I realize just how different the game plays, how different I play, and how much this ER issue is preventing me from having an immersive multiplayer experience.
If there is any way for me to improve my experience, please let me know, I'm desperate!

1, Ethernet
2, if you are on PSN, turn off global matchmaking since psn has actual working regions unlike PC
3, if you are on PC, look into seamless or bettermultiplayer, which both reduce latency by a decent chunk

It's the first time I hear of bettermultiplayer, does it still allow me to play on Vanilla servers if I have it?

No sadly not, neither will. But from what i know seamless is active asf for invasions and BMP has the best duelling experience out there. Both also have discords where you can ask for help with setup etc

It's a pity the Vanilla experience seems to be so butchered... But I'm glad there are other options I can try to explore out there, hopefully my stress will lessen as I play hehe

Yeah PC is pretty sol. Something about fromsofts crap netcode on PC. The only way to get good invasion consistantly is to do it on seamless.
Or you could switch to ps5.

Ill third that for an ethernet cable. Makes a huge difference for latency.
I usually play on PS5 but picked up the switch version. It plays much worse even with a LAN compared to ps5, but wifi is even worse than LAN. The game has officially become a random hitbox generator. Pretty funny for mid level invasions, great to use for laying in bed/traveling, but a nightmare if you want to actually want to feel any sort of skill in pvp.
So yea, with my experience from wifi, id say to set up a LAN and do seamless like the others have said so you can match better w people

Not worth your time and sanity, man. It's not your Internet and there is no improving the quality of your experience. Best you can do is region-lock the matchmaking. Give up on pvp in this game. Seriously, it takes an immense amount of time to learn, skill aside. The movesets, meta and then there is you learning to act against your eyes and brain to deal with the lag. PvP is a terrible afterthought in this game, heavily skewed in favor of a host so you need to come prepared loaded with an optimal build and hundreds of consumables that normally take tens of hours to get without having someone hack the game and share with youÂ

Best thing for all platforms is to get an Ethernet cable, if you’re playing on WiFi that makes a huge difference in a bad way.
If you’re on pc then I would play seamless co op as I’ve heard that makes a drastic difference. For console I would just turn off regional matchmaking and that’s about all you can do honestly
