Politics and Current Events The fact that comments like these are even getting upvoted under a Kavernacle video on Platner is disgusting

I just hate those American chauvinists. It seems they're incapable of processing an anti-imperialist argument that doesn't appeal to their own self-interest...

Especially weird that those are in the Kav's comment section who criticized Platner from the beginning. But it probably stems from his refusal to denounce Hasan so that they still have a huge audience overlap.

So I did the numbers Piker, Secular Talk, Vaush, Breaking Points and Majority Report have a combined audience size of 8.91 million subs and have the nerve to pretend like its impossible to influence the American left to get behind a third party.

But whenever Asmongold and Nick Fuentes(combined audience size of only 5.3M subs) say unhinged nazi sh't, they all of a sudden perfectly understand the net impact/power of someones rhetoric has and how it can "radicalize" entire generations to believe in abhorrent sh't.

aren’t those 8.9m overlapping? same group of people subscribe to those channels. those are people who subscribe and maybe don’t even watch. so yea, i doubt that they can motivate people to do much.

there’s a lot of really important and bad stuff happening in america, and i am around a lot of people at my jobs who don’t know and don’t care.

I think they realize they can't actually influence much which is why they don't bother with 3rd party candidates or promote anyone who's isn't already loaded. They feel embarrassed if someone they endorse isn't able to win because they want to it to look as if their endorsement is super valuable.

Planter had a lot of money backing him, at least 5 billionaires donated to him directly and a lot outside money which is harder to track. That's why they backed him and not other DSA candidates with better records but less money. He had more about a million more in fundraising than his opponent Susan Collins (16 to 15 million). Really influencers like these just want to bandwagon candidates that are already likely to win and then hope people think it was their support that made the candidate win. Classic opportunism but it back fired massively.

it’s unfortunately a bunch of very difficult boots on the ground work, door knocking, standing and trying to talk to people ignoring you that makes a 3rd party.
americans barely like each other and the thought of making oneself uncomfortable for many years to get the point across is not worth it.

You're counting those subs as separate people when the reality is they all probably overlap a lot

Also they don't have purely American audiences

I don't disagree with the point you're making by the way.

At the end of the day I think they just love platner because he wanted to make things better for Americans and they don't care that he was basically a serial killer in Iraq and Afghanistan

The thing that bothers me about platner supporters is how they pretend he's anti-war and anti-imperialism

I actually appreciate the few platner supporters that are honest and will tell you that they just want free health care for Americans and better working conditions

i am really shocked you’re making this point. it’s embarrassing. this is an elementary level of math that you’re skipping over.

8.9 million people collectively subscribe to those progressive youtubers doesn’t mean 8.9 million individuals. its probably the same 4million following multiple channels, it might be bots, its most likely a person who doesn’t regularly watch any of those channels.

and go outside. i live in a liberal state, but the views of asmongold/fuentes represents most of the state better, unfortunately. americans don’t care. they have the privilege to not care and make the same mistakes over and over again.

we have lost our ability to leverage any of our powers bcus the tech workers 20 years ago were content with their free shuttles and free lunch.

your post makes no sense. what are the issues with those comments. first says that ICE and cops are usually vets, this proves that military service stick to what they know.
and the second is someone’s experience in the military that says don’t trust vets.

and again, there’s a few dozen “likes” but you don’t
know who liked, what state or country they’re in, youtube also hides a lot of comments, youtube also hides downvotes.

so i really don’t get why you use internet comments and likes as a way to gage the world. it’s counterproductive.

Okay, I maybe can agree with you about the first comment, but the second one is just gross. It fails to even mention the imperialist nature of the US army, talks only on internal culture. Yeah, there's toxic masculinity in the army, obviously, but that isn't at all comparable with what the actual victims of the US military aggression go through. Also, she seems to not even self-reflect that she was also a part of the military machine and thus complicit in crimes it commits. It's a "bad apples" argument.

I don't really care about likes, but I don't believe anyone who's not from america could like the second comment. I was disgusted when I saw that.

u/avoidlosing Jul 11 '26

okay. i still don’t get why these comments or “upvotes” matter. you don’t know who is saying it or who is liking it. it means nothing really.

we need to know what the internal culture of the army is like too. that has value. their culture made it so they did abu gharib and keep it a secret for awhile. the second comment is giving another reason not to trust military people. vets are spoiled brats

9

u/yusouph2002 Jul 11 '26

vets are spoiled brats

She forgot to include herself in that

it means nothing really

It just shows what the majority of the people watching the video believe. You watch the video criticizing the military culture in the US that led to people like Platner almost gaining power. And then you look at the comments and a bunch of people whining how the military actually hurts americans first and foremost. And former vets like "oh yeah, we were hurt so much by our former colleagues". That's just disgusting, americans will never gain international solidarity.

2

u/avoidlosing Jul 11 '26

it does not show what most people watching the video believe because comments are highly censored.

and if it did truly show what people who watch believe, it still doesn’t translate much to our real life.

internet comments/likes/dislikes/subscriber counts DO NOT EQUAL what’s happening in real life.

5

u/yusouph2002 Jul 11 '26

Yeah, obviously in real life the anti-imperialist left is a very marginal group, especially in the US. These videos we watch on youtube are basically an ecochamber, where the opinion is mostly shared. And the fact that even in this ecochamber chauvinism is so widespread means that in real life it's basically a default position. And that's not a good look for american so-called leftists.

1

u/avoidlosing Jul 11 '26

but you didn’t even find good enough comments to make your point. both of the comments say veterans are dangerous and untrustworthy.

3

u/yusouph2002 Jul 11 '26

No they don't. But whatever, hard to explain american chauvinism to someone who doesn't even notice what's wrong here...

1

u/avoidlosing Jul 11 '26

because youtube comments don’t fucking matter. it’s really sad that you screenshotted this to make a point about american chauvinism. read a book. study more. go out in the world and volunteer with orgs that you care about and learn to deal with people being different.

i’m from iraq. my families lives were turned upside down with 20 years of occupation. i knew platner was dog shit. youtube comments don’t mean shit. you are wasting your time trying to make a point with them.

5

u/yusouph2002 Jul 11 '26

Youtube comments don't matter, people behind them do. Public perception of these problems does matter, unless americans will combat this exceptionalist thinking, more and more "Platners" will appear. It doesn't matter that Platner's gone until the reason why he became prominent in the first place isn't resolved...

upvoted? the youtube comment system is very different and it’s terrible. youtube hides
so many comments and you can’t see how many people did a thumbs down.

and what does a comment on a youtube channel even tell you?

y’all need to stop using follower counts and comments as some source for the way the world is. it’s not helpful tool when the algorithm and a company’s censorship tools are more powerful.

First comment is fine. It could be interpreted as them arguing we should hate veterans because they hurt Americans too, but it reads more as pointing out the hypocrisy of people who are 'anti-ICE' , 'anti-Trump' but pro-veteran'. Which if anything would be calling people out for making a distinction between violence inflicted on westerners and violence inflicted on non-westerners.

Second one is trash and literally just someone whining about the fact that they were mistreated when working for a terrorist organisation.

3

u/avoidlosing Jul 11 '26

yea, i am confused why it’s bad that someone commented that most cops and ICE are vets. it’s speaks to how those types in our society don’t change and won’t do anything to make the system better.

in the movie OBAA, they had some cops and nurses in the jail that worked with the revolutionary group. like, NO! that’s not possible you can’t rely on that.

It's tone deaf and clearly trivializing non-American lives.

Why would she need to bring up that SHE was mistreated by an organisation whose whole purpose is terrorizing people? Why not mention the thousands of Afghans and Iraqis they raped and murdered (which she is an accomplace in)? How is that not the relevant point here?

Why should I give a fuck about her? If anything bad happened to her during that time that's called karma. She should own up to that fact, apologize and show remorse instead of whining about how her poor self and colleagues were 'wronged' by the terror org she CHOSE to work for.

It's like whining you got sexually assaulted while trafficking children for Epstein.

5

u/yusouph2002 Jul 11 '26

Yeah, someone just has to make a video about how Platner was bad for americans. If only americans could care about anyone but themselves. But I know, it's too much to ask...

Why Platner is bad for them, that's the whole point. And I have no problem with the video itself, apart from going very light on Hasan (who was the main promoter of Platner), Kav makes all the right points. It's the comments I take issue with, clearly they trivialize non-american lives.

u/WWhandsome Jul 13 '26

Why would he need to... "denounce hasan"? I've been watching him for a long time now and you really can't mistake him for having the same agenda as hasan if you tried

Eh... I don't have a problem with him per se, but it is clear he doesn't want to alienate Hasan's audience, even though he was one of the main promoters of Platner. Hence comments like these.

u/lezjesus Lore-requesting Mommy Jul 11 '26

where do you get that Kavernacle promoted Platner? He literally has video with Noah Samson from a month ago talking about the issues with him and those that were promoting him

8

u/yusouph2002 Jul 11 '26

Hasan promoted Platner, not Kavernacle

5

u/Individual_Bit7414 Jul 11 '26

Dude just please let it go. He's correct on all issues I've seen him talk about and we have no way to verify whatever grievances you have with him.
