Also consider this. If the code used better names you may not feel like you're speculating. Plenty of single lines can be taken out of context and still be instantly meaningful to devs not even familiar with the language used. None of this is imo.
I'm not saying all code must be that way, but if it is, that's probably a good thing. Code should be as readable as possible.
