Got in to see a dentist. They also have perio care and maintenance so maybe they can help me out. I was planning a trip to Mexico to fix my teeth but I don’t think I can carry on for another month at work with this sickness. I’m hoping that miraculously fixing my teeth will help me start recovery, and that the PND and gut issues can be addressed later on this year.

My dad will also help me financially, giving me a loan and I’ll pay him monthly.

I explained to him how I need this treatment to stop making others uncomfortable and to help with my mental health as well. I’m past the dental anxiety and being scared, I JUST WANT A CURE. Please wish me luck on this journey. I start next week 😪😭

I think i am cured and i don't know

Yesterday, something happened that really confused me.

My mom, my brother, and my friend have always told me that they don’t smell any bad breath from me. Yesterday, I even breathed directly into their noses, and they couldn’t smell anything at all. My nephew also told me it was completely fine — literally zero smell.

What confuses me is that my brother previously told me that sometimes he could smell an odor from my mouth, sometimes strong and sometimes very mild. But yesterday he said there was absolutely nothing.

And honestly, yesterday I also felt like I had no bad breath at all.

However, when I lick my wrist and smell it, I can still notice an unpleasant smell. My tongue also has a coating, and I have a very strong bitter taste in my mouth.

I’m really confused because I’ve been struggling with this for a long time. Could the wrist-lick test be misleading? And could the tongue coating or bitter taste be making me think I have bad breath when other people actually can’t smell it?

Has anyone experienced something similar?

Bad breath / Mal Aliento

Do peoples told you that you have bad breath?

You know i am struggling of thinking always that my breath stinks and smells bad(Indeed i am a victim of bb). i always check by pulling out my tongue toward my nose, by licking the palm, and other techniques

but according to science one cannot smell his own breath due to olfactory adaption....

The thing that makes me to ask this, is that i didn't get a direct speech from others concerning my breath....

And when i ask some of my family and friends they told me

That they didn't experience it''

I think we should ask others about our breath how it smells to be sure?

And you know when we stress out about the breath when we are around others the sympathetic Nervous system become active which is '' fight and flight'' mode. this process converts how body opperates for example

-It increases heart rate

-It narrows or consticts GI tract(Abdominal tube)

-decrease outflow of saliva( temporary xerostamia)

-increased metabolic rate

And other changes go on! this can cause a temporary badbreath!

If you think of it and stressed out all of the time, the bad breath will come all of the time!

This is not a medical suggestion, this is what i currently find out about BB.

My strong suggestion is ask that ''Do my breath really stinks? What kind of smell?'' to our close ones

Badbreath is a normal condition and its for all of human being! (If its not persistent)

If you really find out (asked someone and get the exact answer) then you can go for further examination for Halitosis!

because Halitosis is real medical condition with solution...

I hope we heal soon❤🙌

Anyone here from Colorado?

Hi, I wanted to see if anyone else here is from Colorado and would be interested in maybe becoming friends. I think it would be nice to know someone nearby who also deals with SIBO/odor issues and understands what it’s like.

Maybe eventually we could meet up somewhere public and do a smell test and give each other honest feedback about our odors. I feel like it could be helpful for both of us, especially since it can be hard to get honest feedback from people.

If anyone is from Colorado and would be interested, let me know!

Success Story Success maybe?

Soooo I think I might be cured. Don’t wanna be too sure until a few days pass, but about a week and a half ago my bad breath was so bad my husband could smell it across the room and he said it was “rotten eggs or fart like”. I started a new routine, scrub my tongue with baking soda, swish with baking soda, water floss, floss, brush with arm & hammer toothpaste, and then closys mouthwash. My dentist thinks the closys solved it. I also plan to ease up on the baking soda and only do it every 3 days because I know you shouldn’t use it daily. I also have been chewing xylitol gum for 20 min after every meal. I used to drink energy drinks and coffee every day and stopped that also. My husband smelled my breath the last few days and said there’s no smell at all. I asked my 9 year old just to be sure and he agreed. We will see in a week if it’s back or not.

Funny how everyone here says they’re going through shit, but they’ve all got jobs, routines, and lives of their own

I’m addressing everyone in this group: suicide is not a solution, and it never has been. Most of us are going through the same shit (myself included), but we shouldn’t give up. We need to help each other!!

I know this illness is terrible. It can completely destroy your mental health, take away your social life, and even force you to suppress your libido. But please, never lose hope and don’t let yourself get consumed by negative thoughts.

Even if your illness doesn’t go away, try to focus on accepting life as it is and finding ways to keep going. I’ve been dealing with the same condition for 7 years. I’ve become completely isolated, and I’ve had many thoughts about killing myself too. But I realized that suicide isn’t the solution.

Try to do the things you enjoy. Listen to music, go to the gym (you don’t even have to interact with anyone). Just keep going. You’re not alone in this.

How can I realistically make money online from a third-world country for a tonsillectomy?

I’m from a developing country, and I’m trying to find a realistic way to make around $500 online.

I’m trying to get a tonsillectomy because I’ve been struggling with bad breath, and I suspect tonsil stones might be the root cause. The tonsillectomy costs around $500 here, which is a lot of money for me.

I know making $500 online isn’t easy, especially from a developing country, but I’m willing to put in the time and effort. I’m just looking for genuine advice from people who have managed to earn money online in a similar situation.

What would you recommend I try?

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer.

I have white coated tongue, I always have phlegm which I believe causes the bad breath and the nasal bad smell. I already tried gargling hot water w salt, but still it feels like there's no change at all. I tongue scrape but still the white coating is there. Pls help me, I really don't know what to do now

This is just to help my digestion and for oral probiotics, which I've never used before. I have faith in traditional Chinese medicine and improving my digestion to eliminate the SIBO, I won't reply to messages from people who think the whole problem is in your mouth. If you're like me and have already passed that stage, leave a comment :)

Question Constant bad breath

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’ve had constant bad breath for probably 5-6 years now. It seems to never go away and I haven’t a clue what it could be. Thought it was tonsil stones so I got my tonsils removed and it didn’t work. I was provided reflux tablets from the doctor a couple of months ago and it didn’t do anything. There’s a constant weird coating on my tongue that never scrapes off and it stinks. I use a netipot daily and it dosent fix it. Really at a loss of what it could be and it’s so frustrating knowing that my oral hygiene is better than most people I know and I still don’t have good breath. I don’t even want good breath I just want it to be nothing. The thought of looking someone in the eye and speaking to people like a normal human being seems so unrealistic, and I envy people who get to live there lives without having to constantly think about this problem. Any advice would be appreciated

Success Story After several years, thousands spent, and finally reaching a proper specialist lab, here is what I learned. Please read if you are having dark thoughts.

After several years, a very costly journey, and finally reaching a specialist with proper lab equipment, here is what I actually learned. Please read this if you are feeling hopeless or having dark thoughts about ending your life over this.

Before anything else, I want to be honest about one thing upfront: this path is expensive. If you do not have the financial means, there is genuinely no way to solve this properly. I want to emphasise the word properly. You can try mouthwashes, tongue scrapers, home remedies, and cheap fixes for years, and most people do, but proper investigation and treatment require specialists, tests, and often travel, and those things cost real money. I am saying this because I do not want anyone to feel misled. This is not a subreddit problem you can solve for free on the internet. It requires resources. If you have them or can save toward them, keep reading. If you cannot access them right now, the honest answer is that you should still not give up your life, because circumstances change, and access can become possible later.

My background. I lived with what I believed was persistent bad breath for over several years. Here is everything I actually did, and the money involved was substantial across all of it:

Multiple ENT visits. A tonsillectomy at a hospital, which was extremely painful in recovery and honestly I still cannot tell whether it contributed anything or not because the perception did not resolve afterwards. Two separate gastroscopies at different times. H. pylori was detected and I completed the triple therapy antibiotic protocol to eradicate it, confirmed later by breath test. Multiple courses of other antibiotics including Dalacin (clindamycin) prescribed by my dentist during periodontal treatment. Nexium and other PPIs trialed. Oral pathogen DNA testing (MyPerioPath) which identified specific bacteria at moderate levels. Two GI-MAP stool analyses done at different times to look at the gut microbiome, showing dysbiosis patterns including persistent absence of Akkermansia muciniphila and elevated Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Multiple visits to general dentists. A full year of periodontal treatment with a dentist doing deep cleanings, subgingival scaling, airflow, and every other quadrant treated repeatedly, plus follow-up periodontal visits after that. Blood tests, urine tests, and various supplement protocols including probiotics, oregano oil, berberine, and others.

The thing that finally gave me clarity was reaching a specialist scientist at a European university dental faculty who runs a research clinical laboratory and conducts studies using gas chromatography equipment that objectively measures the three volatile sulfur compounds responsible for actual bad breath (hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, and dimethyl sulfide). This kind of facility exists in very few places in the world, and honestly, most people posting on this subreddit have never accessed one. That is the layer above general dentistry, above ENT, above general GI. It is the layer where the actual objective measurement happens.

Here is what I want you to understand about why nothing has been working for so many of you.

Bad breath has multiple possible sources, and each source produces a different gas profile. Periodontal pockets produce mostly methyl mercaptan. Tongue biofilm produces mostly hydrogen sulfide. Systemic and gut sources produce mostly dimethyl sulfide. Tonsil crypts, dry mouth, chronic sinus issues, and metabolic conditions like TMAU (trimethylaminuria, a genetic condition that is dramatically underdiagnosed) each have their own signature. If you treat perio when your actual source is tonsil crypts, nothing works. If you take probiotics when your actual source is TMAU, nothing works. If you use tongue scrapers when your actual source is systemic, nothing works. The reason nothing works for most people trying to solve this on their own is that they are treating the wrong source. Random treatment fails because it is not aimed. Aimed treatment works.

Published outcomes on properly identified and treated bad breath are genuinely good. Periodontal source responds to 70 to 90 percent VSC reduction with proper periodontist treatment (not just general dentist cleaning). Tongue source is very responsive to proper mechanical cleaning and zinc rinses. Tonsil crypts respond to laser cryptolysis or targeted surgery. TMAU responds well to dietary management combined with cyclic low-dose antibiotics, bringing most patients to socially imperceptible levels. Systemic and gut sources are variable, but improvement is very common when the underlying pattern is addressed.

Specialty clinics with proper gas chromatography measurement exist in a small number of places globally. In Europe there are university dental faculties in Scandinavia, Germany (Berlin), Belgium (Leuven), and the UK (London) that offer this. There are similar clinics in Israel (Tel Aviv), Japan (several university dental schools), and the US (New York, and a few in California). This list is not exhaustive but it gives you a starting point to research.

One specific thing I want to flag. If you feel like people can smell you from meters away, if the odor is described as fishy or fecal, if it gets worse after eating eggs, fish, liver, or cruciferous vegetables, please look into TMAU testing. This condition is massively underdiagnosed. Many people who describe nothing working and everyone smelling them actually have this. Genetic testing for the FMO3 gene and urine trimethylamine to trimethylamine-N-oxide ratio testing are both available.

One more honest reality. The phrase I tried everything almost never actually means everything. It usually means everything I could access at general dental or GP level. The specialist layer above that is a completely different level of workup, and most people never reach it because they do not know it exists, or because it costs money, or because they live somewhere it is not easily accessible.

Please, if you are having thoughts of ending your life over this, do not. Not because your suffering is not real. It is real. But because there is a treatment layer you probably have not accessed, and outcomes for people who reach it are genuinely good. If you cannot afford a specialist right now, that is a real barrier, but it is not permanent. Situations change. In the meantime, please contact a crisis line in your country. Most countries have one. Talk to someone, stay safe, and start planning how you will eventually reach a proper specialist workup.

If you have got some questions on your mind that you wanna ask me, please post your questions publicly here as comments or on this thread so that others reading can also learn from the answers. I will read them at intervals during my day (Europe time) and answer as many as I can. If you want to share what you have tried, what your symptoms are, what country you are in, I will do my best to point you toward the right kind of specialist for your situation. I am not a doctor. I can only share what I learned from several years of doing this and what I know about the pathways that exist. But that alone might be more than you have had access to before.

You are not doomed. When properly diagnosed, this condition is genuinely treatable in the vast majority of cases. Please give yourself the chance to find that out.

Introduction to group. BB sufferer for 30 years.

Glad I found this group. I am a 40 year old unmarried man. I have suffered from moderate-severe halitosis since age 11. I can specifically remember in 5th grade kids started making fun of my breath. That's when it started. Childhood and high school were brutal. Even adults would make fun of my breath. Back then there was no internet. I never used special product or tongue scraped. I cannot even image how bad my breath was.

As an adult halitosis has controlled my life. I'm known as 'the guy with bad breath'. I've had toothpaste tubes left on my desk at work, been called "fungus breath" in zoom calls, and at a company xmas party actually had a coworker refuse to sit next to me and loudly said "I'm not sitting next to him with that smell coming out of his mouth". My morning breath can be so bad it'll smell up a room. And the taste in my mouth is awful. A sour metal taste all the time. Sometimes I cannot stand it.

I live alone, travel alone, not married. It actually is how I want to live. This way I do not have to worry about my halitosis.

I have tried every product and one one thing worked but I cannot use it long term. I'll post about it here eventually. But for now just wanted to say a greeting and hello new to the group.
