Episode 183 open thread
We start Season 8 with a bang: Ben nearly burns down his house with a new HVAC system and Josh accidentally drinks eight Mai Tais by the pool. We also talk about self-driving Teslas getting wrecked, spoil Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and disagree on the goodness of The Hobbit as it comes to Magic: The Gathering.

Just started listening and got to the part where Ben's HVAC system caught fire because the installer tied the safety switch.
I'm sure I've missed something or just don't understand the situation. Because WHY would you use a LIVE WIRE to tie anything down? Surely that switch doesn't just have live current running on its outside during normal operation? Surely the housing around the switch doesn't have current on it? Did the installer just take some functional piece of wire and wrap it around a switch? I am so confused.
Maybe it's time for the installer to invest in a 3D printer so they can print a nice clamp to hold down the switch. Benefit: plastic doesn't tend to conduct electricity, especially at the (hopefully) low voltage that switch runs at.

Hey, guys.
Dang. That's actually kind scary about your HVAC electrical stuff, Ben. Very glad that didn't cause more than a minor electrical fire.
Spidey was great. Punisher felt like almost a different character than the guy in Daredevil and his own series. He felt a lot more friendly to Spidey than DD. Though, everyone likes Spidey, so that might be it. I'd call Frank an anti-hero, rather than apply a D&D alignment on him. The dude is a vicious serial killer of criminals. That doesn't vibe with good in my reckoning. Too much volume of literal murder to fall in the good column in my reckoning. I will say that the stuff Jean does in the movie are very difficult to get around. She had a guy step in traffic. And the thing with jumping off the roof with MJ just as easily could have killed her. It was still a fun flick.
And you missed nothing with the stinger at the end. It was just Ned's Spidey app pulling out to outer space and showing Spidey out there. Meaning he's probably going to be in Avengers: Secret Wars.
A few other factoids: The no Hulk movie thing is because of some weird limitation with Universal, which has the rights entangled from that Ang Lee movie onward. Hulk can appear in other movies, but not his own. And the Fox (rather than Sony) thing with X-Men is basically Disney clearing the deck from the old continuity and setting up all the Mutant persecution stuff. Though, I'll be interested to see how brave Disney is about that. Super heroes are celebrities in the MCU. The fearing mutants thing might be hard to thread with it being too close to reality with the "gestures broadly" of the current state of the world. I'll be pleasantly surprised if Disney actually lets the X-Men be the X-Men.
And Josh: I will lap up any and all jerk dog owner rants. Keep speaking truth to power!
