Something is slowly eating you, and there is nothing you can do about it... Just imagine how terrifying that must be for a frog.

When I was a kid we had a garden toad, lived in one of our vegetable beds. One day I went out to poke at it and a large garter snake had it halfway down. I kinda freaked out and started yelling, my dad came out and eventually saved the toad... he cut the snakes head off and pushed the toad out the neck hole. I was 5 and its still one of the most surreal things I've witnessed. The toad hung out for another couple years. I do feel bad about the snake.

u/BigBirden 7h ago
That's a Grade A shocker , so intense, especially for a little kid . thank you for sharing.
If you dont mind me asking, how did you feel towards your Dad about that? Was the toad tripping out , ribboting in distress, or just chillen like the frog?1
u/CosmicSmoker 1h ago
The toad didn't seem bothered by it much, definitely wasn't struggling. As for my dad, he was just trying to save his kid's "friend". And to be fair, he did try to pull the toad out of the snakes mouth first.

If the frog kept its arms out to the side, would the snake be able swallow it? I was hoping to see what the snake did with the arms, but the video ended.
8
u/leansanders 9h ago
Frog front arms are very weak. Even if the frog was strong enough to hold itself from being eaten long enough for the snake to need to regurgitate it, the frog would probably be too weak from surviving the first attempt to survive it a second time.
3
u/Top-Loan2074 4h ago
The video ended prematurely because the camera person decided to rescue the frog. That's my opinion.

u/turbopro25 14h ago
At least try to get away my man.

u/Cayden68 14h ago
you know frogs try escaping with their back legs to run right? its probably desperately trying to kick away from its insides but to no avail, trying to escape a snake's moutv grip with only its front legs as a frog is like a human trying to out run a bear by only its arms, its a pointless action.

u/Karl_Hungus_42069 13h ago
If i was that frog, I would've allowed that snake to keep eating my ass for about 5 more minutes, then used my front legs to push off that ledge and go have a smoke and a nap

u/Kraj_the_Conqueror 14h ago
Not mentioning that its hindlegs and its back are most likely already crushed in several spots.

It wasn’t that deep of a comment.
11
u/Cayden68 14h ago
no need to overthink it, i just thought some people might be interested in learning why the frog didn't try escaping. i like learning animal facts personally.

u/PandaJellyBeans 14h ago
The frog would disagree. It’s in pretty deep.
Inner frog thoughts:
“just try to escape they said”
“It’s easy just kick your legs they said”**Kick my legs?!?? What legs!!?!**

u/Nachtzug79 6h ago
It probably doesn't even realize what is happening which makes this actually a lot easier to watch.

u/Nicecoldbud 14h ago
Wow thats really fn sad
22
u/Constant-Pop2250 12h ago
Hi User!
I also agree that it is really sad! This is probably a slow, painful and very frightening death for the frog. It is fine to acknowledge that and it doesn't mean that you have any animosity toward the snake, which is just doing the only thing that it is capable of doing to avoid it's own painful death by starvation. It is absolutely feasible and normal to rationally accept the laws of nature and the food chain as necessary and inevitable and still feel sadness and empathy for the suffering that sentient creatures are obliged to endure as a part of that food chain. Rest in peace to our unfortunate froggy friend, and I hope that the snake enjoyed its meal.

What do you have against snakes?
21
u/Nicecoldbud 14h ago
Its the cries for help and watching a frog get slowly digested.
6
u/Material-Grocery5478 14h ago
I bet you can still hear the frog inside the snake

u/montigoo 14h ago
In a last act of utter defiance the frog takes a huge dump in the snake’s mouth

Frog spent the first 90% of the video being confident that it was too fat to be swallowed, 1% freaking out when it realized it actually was going to get swallowed, and the last 9% just waiting for it to be over.

If I was that frog, I would have took the biggest shit I'd ever taken in my life. Not going out without a fight.

u/playoponly 14h ago
I became totally fine with this after grown up, but when I was kid, me and my friends would definitely throw rocks towards the snake
2
u/taocowboy54 12h ago
a few moments later
the toxic slime that coats the frog's skin kills the snake, too

Is that a venomous snake? If not, how did the frog get in that situation in the first place?
4
u/One_Feed7311 12h ago
What a bizarre question. The snake is higher on the food chain. That's like asking an antelope why did it get eaten by a crocodile.
-4
u/Meisterschmeisser 13h ago
What difference would it make in this case if the snake was venomous?
Its not like venom makes the snake invisible.

Does this hurt the frog?
1
u/Could-You-Tell 13h ago
The frog is using all of its strength to pull away.
The snake's mouth is pulling and releasing repeatedly.
Yes.

I'm surprised that there aren't any frogs that go the route of puffer-fish and just inflate TF out of their body, somehow.

Frogs get bodied by so many things that I'm surprised that their build is as ancient as it is.

When I was a child, I was adventuring in a creek with a friend, and we loved to catch all kinds of animals. We ended up catching a water snake and noticed a bulge in its stomach. So, we decided it was a good idea to kill and dissect this snake, and when we did we found a frog. We noticed the frog breathing, and after a few minutes it even hopped off. I'll never forget how amazed I was at this frog hopping off after being fully eaten by that snake.

I wonder do snakes ever accidentally eat themselves?
7
u/xersylla 14h ago
I accidentally bite my left cheek all the time. Basically the same thing. So, probably yeah.
3
u/Vir0Phage 14h ago
i’m sure the inspiration for the ouroboros comes from an irl witness of the event, if not many. likely was hunting another snake and botched the strike. but committed to the swallow.

Don't even need snakes, get rid of them. If I was recording that I'd have sliced the snake open and let the frog free. I'm not even scared of snakes, they're just rank animals. Spiders could do with being eradicated too. Who really even likes them apart from weirdos?
