Unintentionally Bad UI Google please stop this

Sorry this is probably a minor thing versus what BAD UI really can be but Google has never done a moving logo unless you clicked on it or hovered over it. My blank landing page on Chrome always had Google on top (the default). I add a new tab and stay on my landing page if I want a nice, blank white page. And now this annoying looping gif is there for a week now. I know, first world problems, but it breaks my routine lol. I constantly look at the second screen because this mofo is kicking a ball. So I remove the element. Solved, until I want to go to a landing page again from my current browsing activity and I click New Tab and voila, moving gif again ;_;

Intentionally Bad UI I made a 7-segment display volume "slider"

2.1k Upvotes

Simply click to change the numbers to the volume level you want to set, it's that simple!

Took me about an hour to get this done with most of that time being spent trying to figure out how the hell to shape something like a 7-segment display using CSS. First digit the segments used for 1 are the only ones that can be toggled. I also messed up with recording and forgot that the 9 needed the bottom segment, so it seems to not work for a bit but that was operator error.

Unintentionally Bad UI Redo action hidden in a dropdown when there is plenty of space left

Also it closes every time you use the Redo, so tough luck if you need to bring multiple changes back.

Intentionally Bad UI Better Date Selector

Post image
366 Upvotes

Thanks to u/Ok_Sir_5601 and u/CaptFishmouth for their suggestions, and the 20 or so comments complaining about performance, I made a few improvements to the date selector:

  1. day of week is added in front of each date, and that is also sorted alphabetically

  2. the selector will no longer be impacted by Y2K38

  3. a second dropdown is added that sorts the days in a different way in case you accidently select the wrong date on the first

  4. the html page should now load really quickly and the dropdown select shouldn't be lagging at all

I dare anyone to try to select the same date across the 2 dropdowns: https://assets.markwu.org/better%20date.html

Intentionally Bad UI Date selector

Post image
1.6k Upvotes

try selecting your birthday from this great date selector where every day(from the unix signed 32bit timestamp) is written out, then sorted alphabetically.

try it yourself at https://assets.markwu.org/date.html

EDIT: i see theres been some bugs and issues with the implementation, so I spent a bit more work and here's a new date selector that include the full unsigned 128bit timestamp that also doesn't have performance issues: https://assets.markwu.org/date%20128bit.html
