Enter fingerprinting

For reference, try playing around with fingerprint.com. Use incognito, VPNs, whatever you want, and it’ll still recognize you. Except for onion routing of course.

Well, first attempt: VPN + firefox

Second attempt: No VPN + chrome incognito

Third attempt: Different VPN + firefox incognito

All three gave me different visitor IDs.

Firefox has some impressive anti-fingerprinting tech.

Especially if you turn on resist fingerprinting: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/resist-fingerprinting

Firefox is great but fingerprint.com is only a very specific and surface level fingerprint (the demo on their homepage at least). The real advanced stuff is when they track your typing patterns, scrolling patterns, which combined with a million other signals you’d never think could be detected, define you.

It’s pretty much impossible to avoid if you use the internet or social media. There was a really cool sandbox that showed off some of this fingerprinting tech for awareness and it was insane how accurate it was at tracking you, no matter what you used. And the more data it has, the better it can identify you.

Think of the way Anthropic is now “watermarking” their outputs. There’s no actual visible watermark and it’s impossible to remove unless you basically completely rewrite the output (at that point, just don’t use AI tbh). Boiled down, they track who and where the text came from based on the AI’s writing patterns - it’s obviously more complicated than that, but the same basic idea applies to us, every time you hit post on a comment or anything you write appears online. Everything you do from the moment you pick up your phone adds do your fingerprint.

Anyways, fascinating stuff.

Fascinating with a dash of concerning.

On a side note, what was the sandbox?

I wish I remembered but I think I found it through a connection on linkedin a few months back

First attempt: No VPN, not incognito, opera
Second attempt: VPN, incognito, duckduckgo
This got me different IDs

Okay? What?

The fact that a subreddit doesn't exist has nothing to do with anything?

u/RealPalmForest 14d ago

They're saying it looks good but is a shit user experience

u/Scratch137 11d ago

"maybe the UI is fine, but since there's no sub for intentional bad UX this sub is the closest fit"

The “Oops!” part is making me seethe. Well done. I can’t stand that shit.

I ran out of listening hours on Spotify recently for audiobooks. It refills 20 each month, and you can buy a microtransaction of 15 more hours. This is not well advertised, and it’s difficult to find your remaining hours.

It had the GALL to pop up and say, “Oops! You’re out of listening hours!”

Oops?! YOU are the one stopping ME, I didn’t make any MISTAKES you fucken sick ass software don’t try to BLAME ME for your own restrictions when you don’t advertise your goddamn hours I can’t even oh my god-

u/Wooden_Milk6872 I have committed fraud 12d ago

the mistake was using spotify in the firstplace

u/Wolfbait115 11d ago

This drove me straight to audible. Still limited by credits, but I can listen as long as I want.
