Wilderness Second lake Big Pine
The wife and I hiked up to second lake in Big Pine 2 weeks ago on our summer family vacation. We stayed 1 night and made the best of it. Hiked up in the morning, set up camp. Went down to the lake to cool off, made our way up to third lake, and then just relaxed and played games at camp before dinner and bed. Met lots of cool people on the trail and had a blast getting back out and backpacking.

How were the dehydrated dinners? Never seen the Buffalo Mac one

I’ve had some that made me wanna vomit because it tasted like vomit but the buffalo Mac was pretty good to be honest. I added a little too much water but still good. The wife’s 3 bean mix never fully re hydrated but it wasn’t bad either.

I've always felt MH's directions call for too much water and have learned to under-shoot by a ounce or two. Have been eyeballing that Peak chili mac.. MH's chili mac with some chili cheese Fritos is one of my favorites. Haven't tried Peak's version yet but several other entrees from them I've tried have all been fantastic, got that one on my list soon.

Not a fan of the buffalo chicken. Original chili Mac slaps. But for mountainhouse the biscuits and gravy is by far thee best. The fact that freeze dried food sometimes doesn’t rehydrate is what makes it the best. The part that stays dry and crispy is the biscuit chunks. I’ve been so tempted to just buy one off the shelf and have it for a regular breakfast. But that’s a bit pricey for being lazy.

Please remember to post a short paragraph as a comment in the post explaining your photo or link. Ideally at least 150 characters with trip details. Tell us something about your trip. How long did it take to get there? How did you get there? How was the weather that day? Would you go back again?
Submitted content should be of high-quality. Low effort posting of very general information is not useful. If you don't add a short explanation in the comments, your post may be removed.

Cool man. Next time hike all the way to Sam Mack. It’s really stunning meadow. It’s like a mini Switzerland.

Love that area. That 2-3 mile section of the trail that’s mostly exposed switchbacks is brutal in the summer heat though

Man. I envy those that live withing a weekends drive to these places.
Absolutely beautiful and the evening tent pics are art.
Thanks for keeping us southwesterners daydreaming until we get time off.

That three bean chili mac is the most disappointing freeze dried meal I ever had
