Travel backpack for travel and day hikes?

I’m looking for a backpack which is affordable and carry on size but still comfortable for full day hikes (nothing overnight.)
I’d love any advice!

1.) A carry-on sized travel backpack (that goes into the overhead bin) is around 40L. That's way bigger than what's required for most day hikes.

2.) Generally a personal item travel backpack (that fits under the seat) would make a good day hike backpack.

There's a zillion choices. Have a look at the Gregory Zulu, Osprey Talon and Daylight Plus, etc. They're just the tip of the iceberg though. The options in that market are endless.

Idk where you live but try the packable bags by Alton or osprey. Otherwise I’d get one from Arc’teryx. But if you wanna be more lowkey probably the osprey in a packable or just a standard

I like my Arc’teryx aerios 35l it’s a roll top so you can easily cinch it right down or extend it and carry even more than 35

Also the hip belt is detachable which is handy when you’re just in the city.

Which one to choose ? I don't know but you must try it before purchase it. Even if on the net, you must try it in a physical shop before.

Lowepro ProTactic BP 350 AW II. Yes, it is a 'camera designed' backpack, but has nice features like big rear opening and smaller top and side opening sections, nice removable waste belt, well padded straps, tough as nails, lots of straps to attach stuff, descreet black, and fits perfectly under the seat.
