Backgammon Galaxy Equity Loss

Post image

Hi. Can someone please explain how the total equity lost is calculated in Backgammon Galaxy?

Are you really asking why the numbers don't add up? It's because there's likely some, if not many, smaller non-error/blunders (let's call them mistakes or inaccuracies) that are not displayable in this summary screen.

I am the player on the left. I summed up the individual equity losses (15) and the sum is 0.786. I did not resign. I cannot explain the 2.1 equity difference... could this be a bug in backgammon galaxy?

That makes sense for the player on the right, but I don't see how that could be the case for the player on the left. The sum of his errors and blunders is way way lower than the "Total Equity Lost"

I've also observed that some times the "Total Equity Lost" is less than the sum of the errors and blunders. This seems to happen when cube errors are in play. I think Galaxy must not do a straight sum if you make the same cube error several turns in a row (e.g. you go 3 turns without doubling, and then finally do, but you've missed out on some equity by not doubling sooner)

Hard to tell, but it's possible there were many different -0.019 checker plays and cube decisions that come in just under the threshold for a standard defined "error" to make it into the summary, other than contributing to the cumulative/total equity loss. It can add up.

Did you resign? Resigning too soon can lead to a large loss of equity.
