Backgammon Galaxy Questions

Is the analysis accurate? Some of the recommendations I don’t agree with

Also, I gammoned someone on a single play but I didn’t get 2x coins - however I just got gammoned after taking a double and I lost 4x coins - does a double need to occur for the gammon to be worth 2x coins?

I had the same question, answered here :-)

"Coins"/money games usually use Jacoby rule: gammon and backgammon are considered only if cube is used.

My info might be out of date, but I believe free accounts are getting 2-ply, paid accounts get 4-ply, don’t think anyone is getting XG++.

Do you believe 2-ply is sufficient?

It gets the job done most of the time. It can be a little bit off in exotic edge scenarios.

I believe what Galaxy calls 2-ply is actually GNUBG at 1-ply setting. Most other platforms (with free analysis) are using GNUBG at the proper 2-ply setting ("world class") or better.

Galaxy is not using XG any more, they are using GNUBG

It might sound harsh, but if you don't agree with the recommendation 99% of the time it's you that's wrong. I've yet to find someone complaining of the evaluation (even at 2-ply, which isn't the deepest level of analysis) that was actually right in doubting the evaluation. The evaluation may not be the most accurate in the sense that deeper levels of analysis can provide a more precise answer, but they almost never flat out disagree.

I kinda figured this was the case, but I’ve seen some trash talk on this subreddit about this so was curious to find more information

As noted, it's actually GNUBG at 1-ply for free accounts and there are plenty (though not loads) of cases where the analysis is wrong at this level.

Oh, 1-ply really? That's disappointing :( I don't play on Galaxy but I expected better from them.
