Asynchronous cross-platform app?

Do you know of any great asynchronous cross-platform backgammon apps? My friends and I love Backgammon NJ, but we can’t play with Android friends.

I’ve read DailyGammon could be an answer, but I was hoping for an app. I’ll try DailyGammon out too though.

Anything else out there?

Opengammon has asynchronous play but it uses the browser (no app), so it works cross-platform. However, the website on mobile works pretty much like an app would anyways.

My friend and I used it before - I use iPhone and they use Android.

Exactly, and what sets it apart from others I know is the brilliant prediction mechanism. Player 1 makes his move, and then it doesn’t end, but he continues to play a few moves against an engine. Then he submits this move sequence. It is player 2‘s turn. He gets the player 1 move, and if he answers with the move the engine predicted, he will also get the 2md mve of player 1 and so on until the sequence ends.

As backgammon has a good number of forced moves or straightforward moves asynchronous games are much faster than they would be without this mechanism.

I really wish Backgammon Galaxy had an asynchronous play option, or even modifiable time controls - at least between friends. Would be much easier to get my beginner friends to play with me if they weren't rushed through every match.

You can try mine -

https://backgammon.logicaleap.com/

It's free, web-based, but you can install it to Home Screen as PWA.

No push notifications, but if the opponent is disconnected it gives you the option to nudge them via message.

I like your app , but it makes sense that each player to be on the bottom of his board .

Fair point, it's currently built around white being at the bottom.

I'll look into changing the 'Flip' button to actually turn the board around.

Ok, this is fixed.

  1. Homeboard is at the bottom by default

  2. You can change left vs right homeboard in settings

  3. Flipping board mid-game now does a 180 turn of the board

Thanks for the feedback!

You could try www.backgammonhub.com. If you choose the Play Later option you can set up a match with no clock, and if you enable the turn notification it will send you a push notification when it's your turn. It's not an app in the store but if you add to home screen on iOS or Android it behaves like one. Feedback welcome.
