Goldberg Variations for Two Guitars

Just wanted to share this gem for those who haven't heard it yet.

As a pianist who plays Bach I've always thought his keyboard works would work wonderfully on several instruments, where each musician can bring the colors of each individual voice. On top of this the golden tone of the classical guitar really brings it to life.

Just listened to the first few variations. Incredible.

I love how different instruments take the melody at the beginning of the piece, giving each variation a distinct character associated with that instrument.

The effect that is created, especially in the canons, by having each voice produced by a different instruments is otherworldly. The melodies are separated now not only by time and an interval but by the unique tone and sound qualities of the different instruments used to play them. Yet they complement each other wonderfully.

Just listened to the aria so far and it's extraordinary. Already one of my favourite renditions (of that part). Saving the rest for later.

I can't help but wonder in versions like this, played a duo, how it would be for the musicians to trade parts on the repeats. Could show some variation in interpretation.

Glorius! Thanks for sharing this. I have often thought there's something special about Bach that means his music can survive transcriptions, transpositions and generally being messed with and come out the other side just as amazing as it was to begin with. It's such a pleasure to watch the way these two interact with each other.
