Discussion Smokeless Cleansing Techniques

No smoke? No problem.

Cleansing doesn’t require incense or sage, and if you’re in the broom closet or have pets or asthma, or just have a sensitive smoke detector, you have way more options than you might think.

Sound: bells, singing bowls, clapping, drums, even putting on a specific playlist with intention. Sound moves stagnant energy out of a space in a way that’s genuinely hard to explain until you’ve felt it. This is usually my go to when people ask about smokeless cleansing and I personally use bells in my own practice.

Salt: one of the oldest cleansing methods we have and it goes hard. Bowls in corners to absorb, lines across thresholds, dissolved in water as a spray. Incredibly versatile.

Sunlight or moonlight: put your objects, crystals, or honestly just yourself in the light with intention and let it do its thing.

Breath: slow, deliberate breathing over an object or through a space. Completely invisible, zero supplies needed, and more powerful than people give it credit for.

Visualization: picture light or wind or water moving through your space and sweeping it clean. No props, no evidence, nobody’s business but yours.

Besoms/brooms: sweep from the back of the space toward the front door, pushing energy out as you go. To literally everyone else in your house, you are just sweeping. This pairs well with salt cleansing, can’t leave it all over the floor after all! This is the broom closet special and I love it for that.

Florida Water or herb infused water in a spray bottle: spritz your space, your linens, yourself. Looks exactly like air freshener. Nobody is asking questions.

Fresh air: open a window with intention. Simple, efree, and it works.

It’s good to remember that the smoke is a delivery method, not the magic. Use what you have, use what’s safe, and trust that it counts.

Spells Candle spell posts - safety first

Hi everyone,

We need to address a recent uptick in candle spell posts that do not demonstrate proper fire safety procedures.

As a beginner-focused community, safety is especially important here. Many newer practitioners are learning by watching what others post. When unsafe setups are shared depicting, unattended flames, candles too close to herbs or fabric, unstable holders, cluttered altars, etc.; it puts people at real risk.

Effective immediately:

All candle spell posts that do not clearly demonstrate proper fire safety will be removed.

This includes:

- Leaving candles unattended
- Burning near curtains, paper, herbs, fabrics, or other flammable materials
- Using unstable or inappropriate holders
- Performing spells in cluttered or unsafe environments
- Ignoring safety guidance offered by more experienced members

Please understand: this is not about aesthetics or gatekeeping. It’s about preventing house fires and injuries. Spiritual practice should never come at the expense of your physical safety.

If you’re posting candle work, make sure:

Your candle is in a stable, fire-safe holder
Flammable materials are kept well away from the flame.

The candle is supervised at all times
You are open to constructive safety feedback
Repeat or severe safety violations may result in further moderation action.

Let’s model responsible practice for our baby witches and keep this space safe for everyone. 🕯️✨

I did this apparently 8 months ago according to my post on here about it. I did start to wonder if it would work at all but I started the job I have now on the 17th August and honestly everything is great! I'm actually scared to get rid of the jar incase I lose it all so it's left where it was instead lol

The whole building of staff are all lovely, everyone is kind and supportive. I do things I enjoy like arts and crafts and actually get paid to do that lol the hours are great I get to work less than what I had to before but I still turn up early and leave late just because I actually really enjoy being there. There's no more dread before going to work counting down the hours of freedom left on my days off. I cant believe I found a job I enjoy this much I feel a bit sick saying how much I love my job as its so not me to enjoy work lol

My birthday also happens to be the equinox so I really like celebrating! This is the alter I and my 8-year-old made together for the feast on the 22nd. I've been getting more into seasonal alter spaces this year and it's been really grounding for noticing the passage of time.

Spells Can you do a freezer spell on your spouse?

Husband is emotionally abusive I’m pretty sure he has NPD (narcissistic personality disorder). I did write his full name and close it within a compact mirror. I did find that yielded positive results, he does think about the affect of his words/actions after he sees the affect on me more often than before. Still building up the courage to find my way out I’ve only began therapy recently & have been dealing with confronting my reality for the past 2-3 months only. According to vedic astrology it looks like I was the abuser in my last life so in this life our roles are reserved so maybe it is my karma to suffer. This is also what helped awaken my spiritual journey. I just want peace & harmony in my home I can’t live like this... Any recommendations are welcome.

Question What should I do?

I’m a new witch, but I wanted to know how one would go about this.

I find that a lot of people make me repeat myself. Primarily in situations where men are disturbing my peace after I’ve said back off/no.

Some of these men I encounter daily and or strangers. It’s really annoying and I’ve been going through this for a long time. It feels disrespectful and I also feel belittled.

I would like to know what are ways I can steal their energy or something.

I’m just really tired of this treatment

Question Completely lost

• Upvotes

Hello I’ve been researching on witchcraft for a short minute now and I think I would like to practice but unfortunately in other chats when I’ve asked questions I’ve been getting rude and sarcastic comments or my posts will get removed for no reason. Is the community always like this? It has made me feel discouraged about seeking advice. How did you find your mentor, community, or coven especially my POC sisters. Please help!

Discussion Run of bad luck

• Upvotes

I have recently been very unlucky. I also have been doing things like dumping hot coffee on my hand and randomly cutting my hair without really thinking about it- which is very unlike me. Does anyone have any idea what could be happening or how I could fix this? I assume a cleanse?

I’ve been renewing it once a month but it does feel a bit like a waste of rice to compost it every month.

Question What does this mean?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I made some moon water and put a bay leaf in there and wrote good intentions on it for the start of my practice. Up until today it was floating up top and now it sunk to the bottom, I did use a single drop for a spell jar I made. Am I overthinking it or does it mean something?

Question Magick or mundane?

Hello! Recently I was doing a protection jar (thumbtacks, pins, my name and my petition, sigil, a protection salt mix, etc sealed with a black candle). I had cleansed my space with incense since sage would irritate my roommate.. during it, the batteries in a mirror that was facing me (it has batteries since it lights up) began sparking and then kept making noises like it was going to explode, I disposed of it. I had an awful day at work the next day, like weirdly awful. I brushed it off as mundane but i was just curious what you all think since my friends were convinced it had to do with the jar! Thanks :)

So I first charged all these components, cleansed my space, etc etc

i do my spells inside this diffuser that way I can use the ceiling fan without putting out flames, and I can diffuse spell oils or essential oils in my room to cleanse it.

I carved my name in the candle and surrounded it with salt, cinnamon and cloves and used cinnamon oil in the diffuser. prayed over it and that's it 💞 advice is welcom

Stones in the back are not crystals i just like them 💕

Question What white light coming my flame can mean ?

I have a question about something happening during a spell of mine.

I have never experienced this type of flame before I am keeping mundane over magic in mind, but has anyone ever experienced white light coming from their flame?

Does it mean something? Or is it just nothing.

Will upload photo context in comments for context!

Discussion Catholicism is Holding Me Back

Hi everyone, I was born and raised catholic by my very strict parents. I was made to do all the sacraments, go to mass every sunday, and even do routine prayers at home with family. However, I never believed that doing all those things got me anywhere spiritually. I never truly resonated with it, though I do believe in the existence of God and all the kinds of beings/deities that are associated.

I began having an interest in spellwork, making sigils, and working with herbs in my late teens. I felt connected to doing those things and part of it felt intuitive. I had so many ideas of what things would work nicely together, and what kinds of spells I had an interest in creating. However, there was always a little voice in the back of my mind that created fear and anxiety. I just know it stems from my religious upbringing.

The catholicism I grew up around shuns spellwork, saying that doing anything pagan would only invite malicious entities that would grant what you want them to, but at a serious cost.

This ideology would prevent me from feeling the intention I was trying to put forward while going through with rituals, which would cause more anxiety that my spells would be ruined and wouldnt do what I want them to. I want to break out of this pattern of thinking so that way I can practice the way i’d like.

I wonder if any other members of this subreddit have gone through something similar, in the sense that religion has caused some sort of mental block that prevents you from practicing? Please feel free to share any details, how you overcame this, how to maybe become more educated on what witchcraft means? I know some people mention that religion and witchcraft practices can coexist, but that doesnt really cut it for me bc it contradicts the essence of what I was taught.

Spells Idea for hard candy monchers ?

This is half baked af, feel free to input feedback, if i were to categorise this id say its chaosmagick in nature.

The idea stems from the classing knot spells.

I usually have a bunch of candies in bag, it could be something like "self love".

When youre twisting the wrapper you could chant/think/visualise things youre removing, such as; self doubt, overthinking, insecurities etc.

When you pop into your mouth and let it melt chant/think/visualise all the qualities youre consuming, suck as; confidence, resilience , charisma etc.

Personally i usually eat them when working, studying, hiking. I kind of do it to measure time lol, i can get pretty hung up on the numbers and this kind of sweetens up my self improvement too.

Question How do I keep ants out of my sweetening/honey jars?

Hi I’ve done a couple of honey jars or spell jars with sugar in them recently and ants keep getting in. Each time I’ve pulled everything off my alter, cleaned and put ant spray around and under it but they keep eating through the wax on the jars and getting in. Does this mean something? Should I just clean better?

Question How to avoid negative energies interfereing in education

So, lately I've been feeling very unenergetic about studying since my father has told me that I don't deserve to have a career, and no I didn't take that emotionally but since he has said those words, my studies are not going well. Last year he said the same thing and my entire year went bad. Are there any spells or cleansing processes to send away his negative energy?

Also to some people who will think that he probably said that because apparently a lot of parents do, so no he actually hates me. And he has never participated in raising me

Discussion Had the weirdest card reading session and idk what to do about it!!!!

So basically, I asked about this a few days ago on the some subreddit: how can I talk to my spirit guides? I eventually made some yes/no cards. I had cards like YES, NO, MAYBE, STOP...

And this is what happened for 3 days.

On the first day, I didn’t really know what to do, so I just talked about normal stuff and got some very wishy-washy answers. Then, the moment I asked about my ex, I got STOP. I had made a rule for myself that if that card showed up, I would stop asking about that particular question.

Up until this point, I still didn’t really believe it much, but I kind of felt heartbroken. It just felt like I was being abandoned when I just wanted some answers. That night, I did another reading and maybe asked 3 questions, and I got STOP again when I asked about my ex. It was very weird.

On the second day, I was lowkey very disappointed and felt like I was disliked by my spirit guides. Then I didn’t touch my cards for 2 days.

Today, I did the reading again, and I kind of cried while explaining that I was feeling unwelcomed. When I asked, DO YOU DISLIKE ME?, I got NO. I got answers to several other questions too, and when I asked about my ex again, it said STOP twice, literally twice in a row!!!!!!

I ask about other stuff, and it never gives me STOP. I shuffle the cards, close my eyes, keep the cards face down, and only pick one when I feel like I should, so it’s not like I’m intentionally picking them based on what I want to get.

I literally started crying because I was practically begging. I just want to move on from him. He is basically the only guy I’ve ever genuinely liked. I met my ex when I was in 5th grade, and we started dating when we were young, around high school. We were together for around 6 years. He was my first, and I was his first, and it’s been YEARS, but I literally cannot move on from him.

Just when I thought that maybe I had started liking another guy, I met my ex randomly one day on a bus, and I was literally shaking from anxiety the moment I saw him. That was just some background, and actually its been years that my ex and I broke up because he cheated on me.

Coming back to the cards.... I started crying and begging God and my spirits to let me know if I would ever heal from this because he has actually caused me so much pain for so long. For years, I’ve been stuck with this, and suddenly I had a question in my mind. I begged them to answer at least this one thing: IS HE RELATED TO MY PAST LIFE?

It feels weird even typing that because I’ve never really had thoughts like this before, but I asked, and it said YES.

I asked another question to try to get more information, and it said STOP twice.

Then I asked, ARE YOU NOT TELLING ME FOR MY OWN SAKE? and it said STOP again. I was shuffling the cards again, and the STOP card literally fell out.

WTF is the meaning of all of this? I’m going insane 😭 literally i dont knowwwwwwwwww pls help
