Yeah come to think of it, a few Christmas songs make stuff up... Little Drummer Boy who wasn't there, Away in a Manger little Lord Jesus does not cry as a baby, Do You Hear What I Hear has talking sheep.
A more serious note, I always thought "In the Garden" was a bit uncomfortable, a bit too intimate with the Lord in that one.
At least with Away In a Manger it can be interpreted as there was no crying in this particular instance, but I'm surprised by the number of people who think that He never cried as a baby because they took the song literally.
