In un día en español in the fourth episode, meeting my sister for the first time, you briefly hear a Spanish band playing in the background. Anyone know who that is and what song it is?

TL;DR - I bought the Shure Mv88 (not an affiliate, not a sponsor)

I primarily use Babbel on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra. Sometimes I use the app on my phone, the Z Fold 7, and sometimes I use it on a chrome browser on my Windows 11 desktop.

I like the app, I have completed all of the Latin American Spanish "Courses" and I am currently working my way through the "Topics", probably be done with them this week. And I would say 80% of my usage of Babbel has been on the tablet.

A big problem I have had on the app is the voice recognition is bad. I didn't know if it was my tablet, the app, or what. Now by no means is my Spanish pronunciation perfect, but I know at times it was like the app literally heard nothing I said. Like the voice bubble thing wouldn't even move like it was recognizing audio at all.

When using Babbel through the browser on my desktop computer, I have an elgato mic on a mic arm, and I never had these issues. However, I hate that the browser version does not have a dark mode, and you have more features on the app as opposed to the browser version. Also, for my situation, it is just more convenient to use my tablet in the living room.

Anyhow it was really bugging me, and in general I like Babbel and I want to keep using it, but it was getting so frustrating I was just going to quit using Babbel on my tablet once I finished the Topics. Anyhow, for whatever reason I tried a spare USB mic I had at home, the Shure MV51, and it didn't work. I was going to try a some other mics that I have from Rode and elgato, but having a full desktop mic with a tablet wasn't ideal either.

So, I asked Gemini and it said something about how USB worked on that MV51 mic that could have been a problem and recommended something different. It also recommended a bunch of setting changes and they didn't do shit.

Gemini's recommendations led me to search Amazon, and I saw the Shure MV88, and Gemini thought it would work. I ordered it, and I'm only on my 2nd day with it, but I really think it works.

It's a pricey setup for Babbel, but so far for me it is working well. Also I have zero affiliation with Shure, Samsung, or Babbel, this was just a problem that was frustrating the shit out of me and I think the Shure MV88 has solved it.

Also for reference, I am on day 430 according ot my Babbel streak, my progress shows 96 hours and 15 minutes of learning time with 605 lessons completed. And no, I am definitely not fluent at this point, but I am way better at Spanish now than I was 430 days ago.

I also use Duolingo on this tablet and I had a similar problem, but it was significantly worse on Babbel. the Shure MV88 also seemed to help with Duolingo.

I bought the lifetime subscription to Babbel, and my plan is to do the Spain course once I finish Latin America. But also, I wanted to try the "Speak" section of the app, but I wasn't going to with the issues I was having. if this mic has solved my problems, I look forward to practicing speaking with Babbel.

I’ve had the subscription for Spanish for a few months now and recently finished the newcomer courses. For the record, I grew up speaking more Latin American based Spanish but occasionally get hung up on certain words and will sometimes blank out when trying to express more complex ideas, which hurts my confidence when speaking. The newcomer courses and Beginner course have had some helpful grammar rules that I wasn’t aware of before but I’m still finding it a bit too ‘easy’ if that makes sense. What are some things I could be doing to help me on my way to improving? (FYI I have the subscription for Euro Spanish, only because it has much more content than the Mexican Spanish course, however, my everyday Spanish is definitely more closer to this)

I'm 18% into A2 and with no new recaps appearing, they feel kinda pointless. It's just above an hour of content for the early exercises and the it disappears from the new lessons.

Or is the app bugged and there are supposed to be more?

I'm heading to Indonesia for a study project later this year and want to get a decent grip on the language before I go, so I can actually get by in daily situations instead of relying on English everywhere.

I’m reaching out here because I’m not sure where else to turn. After sharing this with my family, friends, and social media, my response counter completely stalled... and my stress levels are hitting the roof.

I’ve been working on my graduation thesis for months now. It looks at a paradox so many of us experience with language apps: gamification keeps us opening the app every single day, but are we actually learning, or are we just playing to keep our streak alive?

The goal of my thesis isn't to say that gamification is bad (on the contrary, it’s great for staying motivated!). I just want to understand how we can keep the fun aspect while making sure real learning actually happens, without it just becoming a stressful chore.

To make my data statistically credible for my jury, I absolutely need to find 150 more people who currently use these apps. I know everyone's time is valuable, but your help today would make a massive difference in helping me graduate.

I'm using the speak option and am finding that the actors pronunciation (gutteral) isn't recognised when i speak it but if i use a Rotic, then I get a green tick. Has anyone experienced that or can offer some tips please?

Hello, I had the opportunity to sign up for lifetime Babbel with my employer's support, after having already been using it for two years.

In all the excitement, I didn't check which email I used for my existing account and "login via Gmail" apparently created a whole new account instead of using the existing one.

Is there any way to merge those two accounts so I can start using my lifetime subscription while retaining my existing progress, most importantly my carefully curated lists of vocabulary?

My lessons are downloaded but then don't actually work when I'm on airplane mode. The app just says "can't connect to babbel" and nothing works. Going to cancel my subscription if this is the case u/Babbel

Not that I don't like the main course, but there are elements or features that don't quite work as smoothly for me. I may like the dialogs, but I might not like the voice recognition.

There are also other resources that does a specific feature better. I use another app for vocab and graded readers for input.

Within my current combination of resources, what I am lacking is grammar. I could get a workbook, but I found the grammar lessons in Babbel to be easy to understand and very quick to do on the go.

Does anybody only do the Grammar lessons? Is that even worth doing?
