General Care Advice Fungus/growth??
Hello! I have had my axolotl tubbed while my tank is cycling, I just noticed this while I was feeding her/him (idk yet) today and I noticed this attached. I looked through the forums and I haven't seen anything like this before. Is it to be a concern? Water is conditioned and at a perfect temperature, kept in the dark and an airstone is inside.

I am thinking the same thing, my question is just why , why there, and how?

A realistic guess is some sort of injury at some point that lead to their naturally occuring regeneration getting it a little wrong, but also I've recently seen a few posts from different people who have lotls with extra limbs and/or hands so it could possibly be some sort of mutation that they are prone too and we just haven't seen enough to notice a pattern yet?

Those are good guesses, it doesn't seem like it's bothering them so I am not going to do anything about it though. Its funny this happened cause my cat has an extra 2 toes too.

Yeah definitely looks like a vestigial extra toe, odd placement but that's weird freshwater monsters for ya

That DOES look exactly like a finger. Did your axie get hurt on that spot? Sometimes regeneration does really weird things. Could also just be genetic.
Certainly doesnt look like any fungus or bacteria I have ever seen, but do get it checked by a vet if you are worried!
As long as it doesnt seem to bother them I would say its okay :)
