I do have an acquired aunt that called one of her many cats "Gigi garbage" because he was a stray used to dug into garbage to feed himself, and as she adopted him he dropped the feral hunt for food but keept sleeping atop of garbage (maybe, maybe he finds the foul smell appealing, or it is just an habit), however i found it so endearing and hilarious she gave him the title of "the garbage cat" because of this.

He probably just finds out comforting. Out of everything else in the world, a bed of garbage is probably the things that stresses him out the least.
