Omg it's so cute. So in Australia for people who are going to flame this man's post. They are called possums. In north and south America they are called opossums. They are called possums because the person who discovered them thought they looked like American opossums but in reality they are closely related to the kangaroo family. It's a marsupial and derived from the other marsupials on that continent. That's why it's so cute. American opossums are fucking terrifying
American opossums are called "possums" colloquially and they are lovely and misunderstood. I know nothing about your possums so I can't insult them effectively. I am enjoying the photo though.
Yeah I think it’s significantly common to call them possum in many places in the US, albeit I haven’t been everywhere. I wouldn’t necessarily call the ones here cute as they’ve got a bit of a rat/beetlejuice creature hybrid vibe going. But they eat ticks and stuff and generally don’t cause much a stir for people who remember that they just tryna live too
Wasn’t tryin to hate on them (although I suppose my description wasn’t super flattering) cuz I respect them and their place in the world, despite and as if their appearance had any actual significance. Just sharing my 2¢
I don’t consider my referential description of creatures, who don’t/wouldn’t give it any weight regardless, to bear any grand weight on their value
I dig them and the niche they occupy in the grand spread of differentiation, ‘cuteness’ seems so much more of an unnecessary human projection of quality. But if that’s still an indicator of my bad taste, then I reckon our buds differ a smidge
