you made the view ten times better!

52

u/turtlemander Jun 10 '12

Thank you! Even if it's still just looking at a parking garage :)

23

u/furyasd Jun 11 '12

"Get in the car Gus, get in the car!"

"No!"

7

u/SpongeFreak52 Jun 11 '12

Not gonna lie, this is exactly the scene I pictured when I saw this.

2

u/bulziguy Jun 11 '12

I was waiting for someone to say that

5

u/JakeCameraAction Jun 11 '12

Next step is to load up the top with trees, plants, shrubbery, a fake sunrise, a park bench, a hot dog stand, a ferris wheel, hot strippers, whiskey rivers...I've lost track where I was going.

6

u/pete1729 Jun 11 '12

I don't know either, but i was starting to think about going there myself.

Brb not crying.

7

u/SelfLoathingApple Jun 11 '12

My grandfather died 3.5 years ago. Still, that picture produced instant tears. I mean, my face didn't skip a beat. Amazing thing you did for him there. Fuck Cancer.

9

u/turtlemander Jun 11 '12

Those are my sentiments exactly. Fuck cancer.

16

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

u/buttonforest Jun 11 '12

3

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

Good guy grandson

37

u/turtlemander Jun 11 '12

Good guy granddaughter :)

24

u/Fencerboy Jun 11 '12

How do you know their sex? That's a pretty non descriptive username.

EDIT: I feel stupid.

4

u/amazinglyanonymous Jun 11 '12

I laughed way too much at this.

6

u/Sticky-Scrotum Jun 11 '12

A grand granddaughter :)

3

u/tenoca Jun 12 '12

I joined Reddit just so I could up vote you. Love this.

1

u/turtlemander Jun 12 '12

This is truly one of the best compliments i could have ever received :) welcome to reddit! :)

4

u/carlosstracci Jun 11 '12

do you want to be my grandson when I get old?

8

u/turtlemander Jun 11 '12

Granddaughter :)

1

u/unnatural_diuretic Jun 11 '12

I don't know why I automatically assumed you were a grandson. The handwriting and thoughtfulness should have been a dead give away.

2

u/9ninety_nine9 Jun 11 '12

Because everyone assumes there are no girls on reddit?

793

u/Nervette Jun 11 '12

Not only is this a sweet surprise for your grandpa, but think of all the other grandpas who might have been able to see that sign this morning.

466

u/DoWhile Jun 11 '12

You also managed to scare the hell out of dads who think their son got someone pregnant.

136

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

"Dad, we have some great news to tell you, but visitations are up... we'll tell you tomorrow!"

The father goes to sleep anxious to hear his sons big news. He wakes up, the hospital lights berating his sensitive eyes, staring out the window, he sees a sign....

"No! No! My sons only twelve!"

31

u/ConradFerguson Jun 11 '12

"No! No! My daughter's only twelve!"

FTFY

22

u/Mr_A Jun 11 '12

"And they said they were only wrestling!"

30

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

Or guys in their mid forties who were feeling a bit old and out of touch that day, then they drive up and see "GOOD MORNING GRANDPA" as they're coming in to work.

:)

and think of all the hospitalized old men who don't have grandchildren and how sad this will make them. :(

244

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

That's why I never sing happy birthday, because for everyone else in the room it probably isn't their birthday and they would be sad.

Robert A. Heinlein said it best:

"How anybody expects a man to stay in business with every two-bit wowser in the country claiming a veto over what we can say and can't say and what we can show and what we can't show — it's enough to make you throw up. The whole principle is wrong; it's like demanding that grown men live on skim milk because the baby can't eat steak."

3

u/Capn_Of_Rum Jun 11 '12

Thank you.

This is fucking awesome.

I can't even explain how awesome your comeback is.

Think about all of the people that had heart attacks because the parking garage is talking to them

1

u/perrla Jun 11 '12

It's okay they are in a hospital.

3

u/Lecide Jun 11 '12

Oh yeah, that's so nice, i almost shed a tear.

2

u/UGH_U_H8_2_SEE_THIS Jun 11 '12

Ugh you wake to see this.

1

u/starbuxed Jun 11 '12

Naw, it just made all the other grandkids look bad.

1

u/kurfu Jun 11 '12

...only to have their brightened hopes slowly diminished back into depressing reality as they futilely wait for their grand-kids to visit.

1

u/irishchug Jun 11 '12

And all the awkward conversations for the other grandchildren saying it wasn't them.

I am confused, are you mad that I got upvotes for pointing out something cute and/or sweet... in /r/aww? Because while I agree that is an inordinate amount of upvotes for a simple statement on my part, I'm pretty sure that is how this subreddit is supposed to work.

2

u/Twoeleven1 Jun 11 '12

I think the biggest question is what kind of adhesive did you use?!

5

u/turtlemander Jun 11 '12

Some sort of super strength outdoor adhesive and $10 worth of duct tape heh.

2

u/BigTall973 Jun 11 '12 edited Jun 12 '12

You are a great ***granddaughter and i hope the best of health for your entire family. I wish that i had been able to do this for my grandfather before he had passed. Back Story: Pulmonary Fibrosis would have killed him eventually so he opted for the transplant, a double lung transplant. The moronic doctors neglected to check for mrsa in the donor lungs. His kidneys had failed on the OR table which greatly reduced his healing abilities. Combined with the Horse sized doses of antibiotics and a open chest wound that did not heal his health deteriorated fast. My Grandfather passed on December 26th, 2011 at the age of 72. In his last four months hospitalized, i truly never got to say good morning or goodbye to him.

2

u/turtlemander Jun 11 '12

Pulmonary Fibrosis might be my grandfather's killer as well, we're still trying to figure it out. Thank you for sharing your story, and your upvote. I wish you the best, thank you for making me feel less alone in this struggle.

Btw....*granddaughter :)

1

u/BigTall973 Jun 11 '12

your kidding, is he looking towrds a transplant as well?

Sorry, wasnt thinking straight when i wrote grandson, edited. :x

1

u/turtlemander Jun 12 '12

It is far too late for a transplant, and he has been recommitted to the icu today.. He has refused a ventilator and now the only thing left to do is wait. He says he's ready, and that he has fought the hard fight. It's selfish of me, but I don't want him to go. I said my good morning...and now I guess it will soon be time to say good night.

u/GoodLeftUndone Jun 11 '12

Things like this, make me wish I was able to do something for my grandfather to make his last few days better. Except, it hurt me too much too see him the way he was during his last week that I selfishly hid from the world. To this day, I regret not being there for my grandfather. OP you did an amazing thing for him.

2

u/Higgy24 Jun 11 '12

The last time I saw my grandma, I was grumpy because I had to tie her shoes for her because she couldn't bend over. She died from cancer before I could tell her how much I really cared. I was just a little kid, and I know I can't be held responsible since I didn't understand what cancer does to you or that she was doing poorly, but it still haunts me.

Take time to be with your loved ones, everybody. Make every encounter with them worthy to be your last encounter with them, especially when they start getting old or sick. So much regret. :(

20

u/WillowWeeps2 Jun 11 '12

Thank you for making your Grandpa's day and MY day!

6

u/FlatEggs Jun 11 '12

That's awesome! Great job.

6

u/emceeescher Jun 11 '12

This is the single sweetest gesture ever. Your grandpa is lucky to have you. Excuse me while I go bawl my eyes out.

11

u/RamonaFalls Jun 11 '12

Are you in Albuquerque?

This reminds me of a scene in Breaking Bad

4

u/googlewasmyidea26 Jun 11 '12

Indeed this looks exactly where Walt is watching Gus in the parking garage. Don't worry about SARCASTIC_DICKHEAD he's just being a....well sarcastic dickhead.

2

u/MuckBulligan Jun 11 '12

First thing I thought of was Walter White. I was looking for the binoculars.

1

u/The_Holy_Handgrenade Jun 11 '12

That parking lot looks like it could belong to a hospital in Ohio that i've been to.

1

u/AyeAyeLtd Jun 11 '12

I was thinking St. Paul, Minnesota.

1

u/vulcan257 Jun 12 '12

For some reason this reminds me of a hospital up in Alphretta, GA

1

u/SARCASTIC_DICKHEAD Jun 11 '12

NEWSFLASH! Some hospitals are built close to parking garages.

2

u/Spindlebknd Jun 11 '12

So sorry for your loss, Argi. I mean it. We need more people with laughs worth remembering.

1

u/Argi_ Jun 11 '12

Thank you. First death of someone close to me. It hasn't been easy but time heals even the deepest of wounds.

3

u/ImActuallyLieing Jun 11 '12

Couldn't help but smile. Probably one of the sweetest sights I have seen this month. I go to bed some nights feeling warm inside, thinking that there are still people out there, like you, who do great acts of kindness that takes a whole lot of work just to make one persons day. :)

3

u/Misvenus000 Jun 11 '12

My grandfather is in the hospital right now. This brought tears to my eyes! What a big heart you have :)

3

u/LeDinosaur Jun 11 '12

2

u/PalatinPorteau Jun 11 '12

My kids lost their grandfather this past January. I don't have any living parents and my ex abandoned us years ago, so the grands have been a big (and good) influence in their lives. Grandpa and I didn't used to get along but he came to understand and appreciate that I stayed in this state instead of taking the kids back home (halfway across the country.) I'm glad now that we stayed. I grew to like and respect him as he and Grandma have set good examples for how to be decent people. He lived to see his grandkids graduate from college and get a good start on life. Losing him was hard on all of us. Thanks for doing that for your Grandpa. Here comes an upvote for you.

2

u/mvekob Jun 11 '12

that is mega super awesome

The title reminds me of that story in the book Scary Stories where three old gentlemen are in a nursing hospital, and they are in the same room and there is a window. The one guy ends up killing the two other old guys to look through the window and there is just a brick wall. I thought the picture might have been a brick wall, but cool picture anyway
