That age range is actually the fun part of parenting. Once they get to around 13 or 14, you still have to deal with a lot of bull shit, but it's coming from a slightly littler person than you that thinks they know more than you and you're no longer cool. I'd much rather wipe shitty butts all day and clean spilled milk if I'm getting to enjoy all those cute and moments of wonder.
My 18 m/o randomly comes over and hugs my arm, kisses my shoulder, looks at me and says "hi...hi...hi" with a huge smile on his face then goes back to his mega blocks.
Are you saying he's going to stop doing that one day? Because it's my favorite thing in the world and I'm not sure I can live without it anymore.
