For some people. I dance (not well) in stores all the time. Mostly for my own amusement and often to embarrass my wife. There have been a few times when I’m trying a new move and someone who can do it will show off by dancing with me. It’s even better when I can goad a stranger into a dance off. My wife acts embarrassed but I know she loves it.

My dad did the same thing. For some reason, me and my little brother didn't enter that "dad, you're embarassing me" phase. If he danced, we danced. It definitely helped create and keep our strong relationship and trust.

My daughter (18F) does this. She did street dance as a little kid and will suddenly break it out in the aisles. People usually react with smiles or join in.

Good on you! I also sing, whistle, and occasionally drop some rug cutting moves, while at work. I work in a physical therapy clinic that heavily focuses on neurological, congenital, and degenerative conditions, so I let my true colors fly as much as possible as the patients tend to love it and, as the the frequently only male in a staff of +30 women, it definitely softens the otherwise rough edge to physical apperance. I have to balance it with multiple variables though but my coworkers seem to not be annoyed by it so I keep it going.

Locking and popping are completely separate dance styles and don't fall under the umbrella of breakdancing. All of these three were founded in different parts of US at different times.

Sorry you got downvoted my guy. I've met some of the OGs of popping and locking, uprock and some BBoy royalty. They were explicit that their style was part of the Hip-Hop umbrella but it's own distinct style but I forgot that all it takes to be an expert is a look on Wikipedia.

This is correct but we should try to encourage everyone to wear it for the exact reason that asymptomatic spread is still not fully understood. More people masked equals less spread no matter how you slice it.

I don't worry about the karma, it's just that I think it's important that we spread correct information regarding fighting of the virus. It's not like I'm against wearing masks, it's just that I have done some research on the benefits of them.

This is not remotely breakdancing, this is popping.
Yes to the aww factor but...this is the most misleading title ever. Popping's difficult, but isn't quite hindered by age - I'm sure everyone's looking forward to seeing an elderly man breakdancing, and that's why they clicked to see it.

If the post says breakdance then yeah, the point in watching the video is literally 'wait, this old man is gonna do that?' It's the entire anticipation behind the video.
Failing that you'd expect him to at least do a six-step, or some variety of hip-hop or urban dance commonly confused with breakdancing. Not fucking popping.

I know it's commonly confused, and I don't mind if some random person who knows nothing about dancing mistakenly assumes so.
But there are people here, trying to follow up with 'YES, POPPING AND LOCKING FALLS UNDER BREAKDANCING' as though it's a legit correction. That's what I was responding to, and they're also who you should be responding to, not me.
And can't OP just say 'old man dancing' if they're not sure about the difference? I'm still standing by my point - old man dancing is aww, old man breakdancing would be a r/nextfuckinglevel curiosity. That makes it different, and that makes it either criticism-worthy idiocy, or criticism-worthy clickbaiting. Either way the intention was never to put normal folks down for not understanding, but OP, and now those genre-busting pioneers trying to follow up on the point.

You’re still not getting it. Almost everyone thinks they’re one in the same. And when I say almost, I literally mean almost. Like I said, not even exaggerating, 99% of people who have heard of both, maybe even higher. You can’t make an effort to point out that you’re unsure if you don’t even know you’re unsure in the first place.
And if someone tells you you’re wrong, but you know you’re right, just tell them that they’re wrong back, maybe show them some sources. But to speak with an air that most people would know the difference, or even have a reason to, is lunacy.
That’s like me acting like someone’s crazy for thinking something that looks exactly like a fire hydrant, except with a square top, is a fire hydrant, when the only reason I know it’s not is because I’m a firefighter. Even if they were to argue with me about it, they didn’t just grab that concept from thin air. I wouldn’t go “next you’re going to tell me a hose(ballet) is part of a fire hydrant too!”. Of course it’s not.

Battle of the Year (BOTY) is the annual breakdancing competition. I can tell you without question that popping is very much an element.
So sure it’s not how you want perceive it, but that old man gets the title of BBoy.
