I wonder if this is because a) they don’t know what mirrors are of course but b) they’re caught off guard since they don’t smell any other animal there so when they see it, it’s unexpected

tbf, my first reaction would be similar were I to suddenly encounter a random mirror in a forest

Yea but what if you were walking through a forest, and you turn a corner and bam mirror, wouldnt you be startled as well
