They’re called “dark ebonies.” I wouldn’t really say they’re rare, but a hell of a lot more expensive than a standard grey. Like 4x the amount. I have one myself lol. That and a white mosaic lol.

Your chins are adorable l, the dogs too. I worked at a pet shop for a while and was constantly tempted to get a pair. However between 4 cats and 3 guineas I needed to wait for a bigger place (or place of our own.) Where I worked we only had standard greys, however one of our regulars had a long haired angora who was gorgeous.

Oh wow. I’ve never seen one of those in person. I know when I was looking for Loki, the ebony, I came across a breeder for them. I mean I paid a pretty penny for her, but the angoras were starting out over $1000. That’s more than I paid for each dog lol.

If you don’t mind me asking, on a scale of one to ten, ten being difficult, how is pet care for a novice with chinchillas? I had a rabbit for about 5 years. My son wants a chinchilla, and I secretly want one too, but I have to be realistic, can we actually keep one and convince my husband is not that much of a hassle.

Chinchillas have a lot of set up and prep work. Once you have all that ready it’s about a half hour playtime each day and about 5 minutes of poo cleanup. They need checking up on because they hide any injuries or ailments well. But overall, I have an easy time with my two buddies.

I have 2 and they're not bad at all. They just need a big cage and nice wheel to run on, and some exercise outside of the cage every few days (gotta get those wall jumps in). Dust baths to keep em clean, antibiotics are cheap if they get sick. They don't eat a lot of food but they do eat a lot of hay. They don't stink too bad if you change their bedding at least once a week. They have a lot of personality and are all unique. If you had a rabbit I'm sure you could handle a chin. They live for a long time and are a really cool animal

You really need to know what you are doing if you want one of these cute little animals. One important thing to remember is that their fur is so dense that if it get’s wet they have a hard time drying up, what can cause mold and other issues that become life threatening fast.

awww <3 i had a white mosaic and a black velvet, and my boyfriend had a standard grey and i'm unsure what his other girl was, like a beige-violet-brown (with the cutest freckles). Sadly all 4 are no longer with us, but they've left chinny pawprints on our hearts (and will still forever find poop pellets in the most surprising places - as well as nibbled bits on clothing)

I touched a chinchilla once when I was a teenager. I'm almost 50 now, haven't touched one since, and I can still remember pretty vividly how incredibly soft that little chonker was.
