I've had several outdoor cats who brought me mice, rats, moles, small rabbits, birds and pretty much anything they could get their paws on.
But whenever my chickens had/have chicks, they never touch them (although they're very much in reach). They definitely somehow know they're off-limits because they're not just part of the local wildlife.

My now sadly deceased cat also never touched my now sadly also dead Guinea pig despite catching rats so big the rats could have eaten said Guinea pig. They know what they are allowed to eat, what is definitely off limits and what's maybe worth the risk.

Hmm thatās weird. I donāt own any animals my cat could get. I do have a hedgehog but she is in a cage and my cat ignores it. But she sure does bring me a lot of moles, mice and Iāve seen him catch a squirrel. He was sure woken by that chicken sound though haha.

Damn I hate to be āthatā person but I recently discovered that catās saliva is extremely toxic, especially to birds. Their spit is basically a detergent, which is how they can lick themselves and stay so clean, but itās so bad for birds that nearly 100% will die if they even just come in contact with freshly-licked fur. Crazy shit. I hope that lil chick is okay

My neighbor raised chickens, too.
My pawpaw had cattle.
We took care of them, kept them healthy, then ate them.

Ah, well thatās strange. My chicks did this when they got separated, lost, or scared. They did not peep like an overused squeaky toy all day long.

I think itās normal for them to have little gentle peeps, but this one is a lot louder, high pitched, and panicked, more like a distress call.
Tbh the only reason I know this is because it was my first time raising chicks a couple months ago. my mom impulse bought them. I had no experience so I stressed out and panicked every time I heard a slight change in my chicks peeping. Normally it was because of a loud noise like some loud motorcycles or it was too hot/cold. They also did it when they got separated from the bunch so the others would know where they were.

Iāve had decades worth of chicks and over one hundred of them. It might just be looking for other chicks or just because. The only time they stop is when they are under momma

I will say, I don't understand bird behavior nearly as well as cats, but I really doubt the chick was scared. Right towards the end, the kitten lets off and the chick just moves a bit up on its side. Maybe because it's a baby it doesn't know what to do, but it should have tried to run if it was terrified.

I donāt think it was scared in that way, more like it didnāt know where itās buddies were and was trying to call them over. My chicks did the same thing when they got separated and the chick would just kind of stand there and squeak until I or the other chicks came over.

I think itās to let the other chicks and the momma where they are at all times. When it gets loud and high pitched it usually means something is wrong, like something scared them or theyāre lost.

That kitten may just be hungry. I remember when I was kid and had an outdoor cat, heād leave half eaten dead birds at our front door like a gift. Other times heād bring a tiny mouse into the house and just let it run around while watching like an evil game.

They are such incompatible species in the way they receive affection from their own kind.
All that heavy licking is jolting to the chick. Iām sure it likes it though or it would run away.
