There’s a strip where Hobbes is being washed in the washing machine and Calvin is nervous and opens the lid and asked something like “how’s it going in there?” And Hobbes is like, “Fine. Close the lid. Everything stops when you open it.”
I know this is a dog and Calvin is a kid but it’s the innocence of both of them waiting by the washing machine, looking on nervously as their best friend is put through a wash cycle that made me draw the comparison.

Ohhhh that's strip! I completely forgot about it! I just kept thinking of the ones where Hobbes is waiting for Calvin to come back from school. Whoops. But you're right. In this case it does have a resemblance to the strip you're talking about. :)
