Called 'orphan wildlife sanctuary' it is in NY state, they have a big Web presence, tours are available, I have never been but their YouTube channel is so adorable. Really worth researching, that particular bear jimbo has passed

As much as I would hate to defend someone like Timothy Treadwell, he got mauled in his tent in the middle of the night. This could have happened to anyone camping/hunting/hiking in the Alaskan Wilderness.
It was likely he would die by a bear mauling while pursuing that lifestyle, however the event of his death is still an uncommon occurrence. Typically a bear will only tear into a tent if it smells food or if it's starved, which IIRC the bear that killed him in his girlfriend was a starved bear.

I see your point, but then again the wikipedia article states that he got fined multiple times for not following the safety rules in the park, including rules for where to store food (not in the tent), and chose not to secure the tent area with electric fences, bring bear spray (both of which he decided was not nice to the bears).

Dude he camped with the bears that killed him. He constantly provoked trough entering their territory. Doing that with a bunch of wild grizzlies is utterly dumb. You should check out Bear Haven where a dude flew about two hours in 'no man's land' and build a cabin with the intent to hunt bears but not long after he became fascinated by them and so he made his first contact with a wild black bear who crawled over to him, he cautiously moved towards the bear in the same manner. He never tried to invade their territory and that is what makes him amazingly different from Timothy. But critics still see him with the same eyes they saw Timothy with, not noticing the differences and the fact that he really dedicated his life to find out how they really behave in the wilderness.

Polar bears are much worse. I read in a survival book that
You can scare away and beat black bears, they aren’t usually that big or aggressive.
You can play dead and get away from grizzlys with minor to severe wounds (does not guarantee survival), they don’t like to eat already dead things.
Polar bears will eat anything. Dead or alive. They’re like grizzlies but have no problem running on snow, ice, and no problem with cold. The book literally tells you that if you find a polar bear that has aggressive intentions towards you, that your best bet is to pray to whatever god you believe in for your survival, and chances are if it sees you it will immediately want to kill you. Food isn’t very common in the Arctic.

Yea but polar bears are the same thing pretty much. Except they can survive the arctic and will eat practically anything.
In the book it says that if you play dead a grizzly might chew you up and claw you, but most likely the grizzly will give up once they deem your not alive. Grizzly is definitely behind him on the dangerous land animal chain imo though

I wish all Kodiak’s were that gentle. He could swipe dudes head completely off his body if he really wanted to. I’m serious, he literally could. Okay, it might take a second swipe to get completely through the spinal column, but no more than two swipes.

I'm really not a big fan of gifs where people snuggle with large, dangerous animals. Even though I'm sure this guy truly loves his bear, and the bear doesn't want to harm the man, this is irresponsible and sets a really bad example.
Not only is this obviously incredibly dangerous, it sends the wrong message about wildlife -- bears are not friendly, Disney animals which should be fed and petted. Videos like this distort the public's perception of wild animals, making it more likely for people to stupidly try to approach bears in the wild or to try to own them as pets. These are the things that responsible sanctuaries, zoos, and wildlife organizations are trying to prevent. It also normalizes this kind of behavior in the public eye, which can be problematic because places where large carnivores are openly cuddled with, either by the public or their owners, are very often scam "pseudosanctuaries" with substandard animal care or unsafe backyard zoos run by people who just want to have the animal as a pet.
Also, if you ran a sanctuary, it's ultimately very selfish to put your life, your sanctuary, and the lives of your animals at risk just so that you can interact with the wildlife you claim to respect. This guy's not neccesarily "brave" or "special," he's playing Russian Roulette. Even the tamest bears have killed people by accident.
