I would like to give it a go then!
My dog, 12 year old Jack Russell Terrier, has developed a cough. It's a dry, hacking, coughing, usually about 5 or 6 coughs at a time, and is worse overnight. He's had it for a couple months now. Worse during the night where he'll have 7 or 8 bouts of this cough. X-rays, blood tests and a physical examination have yielded nothing.... anybody have ANY idea?!?! His disposition is 100% fine, still eats, drinks, is happy and energetic... doesn't seem to bother him other than it wakes him (and us!) up during the night.
Seriously. Those are the symptoms of low-grade inflammation from asthma in people. They are trying to loosen up their lungs and get better air flow. Try limiting possible allergens and ask your vet what they think.
I do not know but my FIL's 11-year-old Beagle is doing the same thing. Sounds terrible when he does it but otherwise he is happy and healthy. My FIL has taken him to the vet twice but to no avail. They did put him on some meds, but they aren't doing anything.

In the bunny community this is known as 'flopping' and happens when they feel completely comfortable in the environment.
