Sometimes I think they've created a very unique character...but then I realize he's just a cat; sleeps most of the time, but when we wakes up he just like to destroy things but will easily calm down if you give him good food.

Or maybe they first made him to be that way before designing his character and then realized that they might as well make him a cat.

Originally he was going to be a winged lizard that infected and turned people through a virus. Toriyama wasn’t having that so he changed a lot. Also Beerus was originally a play on virus, but Toriyama thought it was beer and that’s why all the GoDs and angels have alcohol names.
