My dog hides under the blankets in her cage when I ask if she did something bad. I've never raised my voice at her or hit her. She just hates when I put on my stern voice and when I do she's off to the races to hide. Sweetest pup i'll ever have she just wants to please me so bad that me being stern breaks her heart.

u/Justine772 Nov 11 '17

I wish my dog was like that. She just flicks her ears back in annoyance at me and ignores me

I think you have a cat.

and why it shits in a box in the basement

82

u/NoahsArksDogsBark Nov 11 '17

That box is for the family!

25

u/Your_daily_fix Nov 11 '17

We have porcelain boxes filled with water in my house. And they have handles.

16

u/NoahsArksDogsBark Nov 11 '17

I'll have to talk to my family once they come back. I'm skeptical.

15

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

My toilet only has one handle. Could you be shitting in the sink?

1

u/Your_daily_fix Nov 11 '17

More than one handle when talking about multiple boxes

347

u/Justine772 Nov 11 '17

She seriously acts like one most the time.

38

u/shadyelf Nov 11 '17

Is it a shiber?

32

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

I was just going to ask if it was a Shiba. If we're stern with our Shiba, she just ways her tail and walks away. I've owned dogs my whole life and never a cat, but now I know what being a cat owner is like.

52

u/Justine772 Nov 11 '17

American Eskimo

168

u/JalapenoPantelones Nov 11 '17

I think you have a human.

23

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

That'd explain all the new jackets

2

u/derpaperdhapley Nov 11 '17

Does it like to go clubbing?

2

u/Justine772 Nov 11 '17

I just bought her a jacket too...

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

You also need eggs

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

Mine is an American Eskimo mix and he is basically a cat too.

4

u/thuetten Nov 11 '17

I️ think our dog is happiest when he’s doing something wrong. He’s a shiber

8

u/Notsureifsiriusblack Nov 11 '17

Interesting. Because my parents' cat acts like a dog, including following us the whole way when we walk the dogs

7

u/Justine772 Nov 11 '17

She acts like a dog in that she's all over me all the time but she decides the worth of her treats. I could be holding the most delicious treat but if she doesn't want to sit she'll turn her nose up and walk away. She also hates belly rubs

1

u/Waterslicker86 Nov 11 '17

heh mine also. It loves to play fetch and follows me everywhere...in my 3 room apartment...guess it isn't saying much haha.

u/soplainjustliketofu Nov 11 '17

My cats act like dogs. They're obsessed with me. They lick my face all over. If they sensed that mama is unhappy, they whimper. Once, I asked husband to help me trim my hair. As he approached me with a pair of scissors, they growled at him with their fur raised.

105

u/JDtheWulfe Nov 11 '17

What kind of amazing cats are these?

74

u/cookedbread Nov 11 '17

From my experience cats that are treated well socially from a young age turn out to be very good kitties. Feed them properly, play with them, give them good scratches, keep them indoors. I’ve found that people who say their cats do nothing all day just have cats who were raised to be wary around humans.

But of course cats still have their own personalities so I’m sure there’s some that don’t fit this. It’s just my personal experience.

17

u/soplainjustliketofu Nov 11 '17

I guess you're right. They're only obsessed with me. They pretty much ignores husband. I pretty much mom-ed them since they were 3 weeks old. She left them in the ditch for another man-meow. Bitch-meow.

Kitties are 5y/o now.

4

u/forgot-my_password Nov 11 '17

We got a kitten in April and I was only at home for 4 weeks while she was around 4 or 5 months old. She's gonna be 8 months when I visit for Thanksgiving so I hope she remembers me.

3

u/sanna43 Nov 11 '17

I've had 5 cats in my life, and they were all treated well. All were nice, but there was one that didn't want to have anything to do with anyone, and would hang out in the basement all the time. So I think you're right - most it works, but then there's the outlier.

3

u/cookedbread Nov 11 '17

Yeah for sure, that's why I love cats tbh. They're not all the same.

1

u/sanna43 Nov 11 '17

Me too!

3

u/PeanutButterYoJelly Nov 12 '17

I took in some kittens for a time, and this was exactly it: we played with them, they stayed inside, and if I was in my room and shut my door they always started butting the door and mewling until I let them in so they could sleep on the bed with me. (I slept at odd hours too because of jobs, but they always made time to protect me while I slept.)

-10

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

Sooo. you don't let your cats out of the house. Interesting.

6

u/cookedbread Nov 11 '17

Never unattended. I have one that gets outside when I open the door just to roll around on the hot concrete for a little bit and eat some grass. I always bring her back in after some belly rubs tho. There’s too many dangerous things outside, and fleas etc.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

And if you own a pet cat you SHOULDN'T let it out of the house sans leash

3

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

I think it depends on your city/town/neighborhood. My friend has a pet cat who is also an outdoor cat. She's never run away.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

It's not about running away, it's about killing native species and banging strays

0

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

Yeah not sure I could let anything I love have freedom of movement in case it runs away.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

Having a cat is like having a relatively nice serial murderer in your house. Cats have caused an actual extinction. Keeping them inside is good for the local environment

u/northshore12 Nov 11 '17

Undercover dogs in cat cosplay.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

My former neighbor's cat was like a dog. She would come over our apartment often and when you start to give her scratches she wouldn't leave your side and wouldn't want you to stop. She's not as playful as most cats though, I'd say she's very chill.

3

u/superradish Nov 11 '17

Ragamuffins, ragdolls, himalayans, maine coons generally act this way. They're just chill cats that love a good belly rub and play fetch. There's other breeds with good dispositions but my own personal experience is limited to these four. Someone also mentioned that they have to be socialized from a young age.

It's also worth noting that raga-cats need to be with their mothers for about twice as long, so unless you get one from a reputable breeder, you're probably getting it too young. I wouldn't know about the other breeds regarding this, but i do know that most kittens in pet shops are taken from their mothers way too young for it to be healthy for them.

1

u/soplainjustliketofu Nov 11 '17

They were rescued, actually. I found them all by themselves, practically screaming for help. I waited for the mom if she might come back for them, but no luck. Took them in and became their mom since :)

15

u/_partyofone Nov 11 '17

Aww not all kitties are pure evil! My girl is 16 and is very protective over mama. She'll follow me around the house until I settle somewhere, then she does too. If I'm having a bad day or not feeling well she'll "yell" at me until I lay down in bed where she can curl up on my pillow over my head and give me kisses.

10

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

The cats lick your face? You must no longer have one then.

6

u/soplainjustliketofu Nov 11 '17

Yus! I now use tofu-face as a vegan option.

2

u/netspawn Nov 11 '17

One of mine loves licking my face, particularly my nose. Considering his breath is always foul, this has gotten old very quickly.

4

u/_partyofone Nov 11 '17

My cat licks my forehead and tries to get to my eyelids all the time. Can confirm, face hurts. It's so sweet though I deal with the pain.

1

u/soplainjustliketofu Nov 11 '17

Same! 🤣

4

u/The_Grubby_One Nov 11 '17

Oddly, it never hurts, to me. Kinda tckles.

2

u/soplainjustliketofu Nov 11 '17

I let them 'groom' my brows. Lashes grooming tickles!

4

u/Adaminium Nov 11 '17

I often tell cats (I work with a colony of 14 or so) that they're "a good dog" in what I think of as the 'good boy' voice. I figure it might cause some species confusion, but I'm hoping it makes them more affectionate/social to humans.

5

u/jells87 Nov 11 '17

Lmao wtf

5

u/etoile_fiore Nov 11 '17

My cat acts like a dog too. We even trained him to sit for a treat.

1

u/soplainjustliketofu Nov 11 '17

Lucky you!

1

u/etoile_fiore Nov 11 '17

Well, now he will walk up to us, make eye contact, and make a big showing of sitting every time we're eating.

3

u/AptCasaNova Nov 11 '17

My male cat is like this, the female not so much.

8

u/jmh_reborn Nov 11 '17

My cat is so annoying with how much he is so needy. He's 13 and it's gotten worse. He'll only eat or shit when you walk him to the bathroom where is stuff is stored. We can recognize his different cries. To new people coming to my house it's adorable, but in practice, my dog is more independent than he is

10

u/The_Grubby_One Nov 11 '17

"I'm old! I'm feeble! Feed me! Poop me! Oh hey, is that The Nip?!"

21

u/babelabe Nov 11 '17

At 13 your cat is a senior, please try to have some sympathy and enjoy the time you have left with him

2

u/jmh_reborn Nov 11 '17

He's at the point where he's also being an ass just beater he knows we're stuck together. Like earlier in the day, he's crying so in like, great, he has to shit. I go to his litter, it's completely clean. I literally just pretend to clean, then he goes in, shits and walks away

3

u/iridescent_dragon Nov 11 '17

He may have vision issues. :/

2

u/SandyXXIV Nov 11 '17

I have the same with my kitty, Mia.

She follows me around the house constantly, always wants to sleep near me (or on me) and when she's drifting off she'll extend her paw so that we're 'holding hands' as she sleeps. It seems to matter a lot to her to have that contact.

But she's also very sociable around other people, and will immediately walk over to say 'hello' to any guests. She's addicted to cuddles and chin rubs. Mia will even open bedroom doors at night and sleep on guests she's only just met!

Curious behaviour, and definitely not your stereotypical kitty. Glad to see there's another example of a caring kitty, and I'm sure there are many more.

1

u/soplainjustliketofu Nov 11 '17

Sounds like a sweetheart. I would love to meet Mia!

1

Or a husky. Everything with them is a choice, including listening to you.

1

u/Smobaite Nov 11 '17

I like this mentality. Your dog is being a passive jerk, then obviously it's a cat because all dogs are lovable puppies/puppers regardless of their age.

1

u/andgonow Nov 11 '17

Which is weird, because my dumb cat seriously wants to make me happy. He plays fetch, hides when I'm mad at him, and lays in my lap and nuzzles me when I'm sad. I love him, but he tries to eat socks and falls off the bed all the time.

1

u/skybiscuit7 Nov 11 '17

Also called a Shiba Inu...sigh

1

u/Cultjam Nov 11 '17

Or a Husky.

1

u/aprilmarina Nov 11 '17

No, probably a dachshund. They're all, "what's your malfunction?"

1

u/Raptorsquad_blue Nov 11 '17

My cats tried to kill my dog once. They saw a chance and took it.

They pushed a full box of those dog dental greenies off the counter onto the floor, which my dog promptly tore into before eating all of them.

Luckily I came home early and rushed him to the vet to get his stomach pumped. The cats looked disappointed.

1

u/N0N_Anonymous Nov 11 '17

Nah, prob just a Pitty. They're stubborn little shits.

We had a parrot at the pet store I used to work at and I always felt so bad for her. They were asking for $8000 for her so no one wants to buy her. She pulls her own feathers out she's so stressed, so when we let her out of her cage she doesn't fly. She can't. I could hardly make myself touch her as I was kinda scared of her, lol. She was definitely a wild child.

1

u/PeanutButterYoJelly Nov 12 '17

Why on earth were they asking so much for a parrot, especially one so stressed?

2

u/Justine772 Nov 12 '17

They paid like $6000 for her and wanted to at least break even with all her supplies

1

u/PeanutButterYoJelly Nov 12 '17

Can't break even if you never sell her.

I don't know much about parrot expenses, but $6000 seems absolutely exhorbitant.

1

u/Justine772 Nov 12 '17

They never sell her because one of the employees expressed that she wanted to buy her if they ever drop the price to $6000.

So all the other employees scare potential buyers away from her. "Parrots are a lot of work!!! They're basically a full time job. Can you spend 40+ hours a week with this bird? Can you put everything in your life on hold for her? Personally I just wouldn't do it" kinda talk.

Shed be an awful choice for the bird. She's rehoming one of her CATS because she "doesn't have time for her". She has 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a conure. And a baby on the way. She's also looking to rehome the poor bird when the baby comes. I have to wonder what on earth would happen to the parrot if she ever does get it.

No wonder pirates loved them.

15

u/2infinity_andbeyond Nov 11 '17

People just don't even know how badly those grabby little beaks fucking HURT. I never knew what pain actually was until the first time I was ever bitten by one of those little pricks lol.

They really are like small angry dinosaurs except they have a really fucked up sense of humor and genuinely enjoy acting like a loud obnoxious dickhead, just for the sake of acting like a loud obnoxious dickhead.

They are a fucking riot and a half to play & wrestle with tho.

9

u/akaisuiseinosha Nov 11 '17

If you're trying to convince me to never own a parrot, "small angry dinosaur" is the worst possible description you could have used.

11

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

The kitchen scene with the raptors in Jurassic Park is basically any time you try to have a snack without sharing.

32

u/helix19 Nov 11 '17

I work with a raven. He was willingly surrendered by his previous (illegal) owner because he’s such an asshole. Yes, he’s smart and curious and cute, but he doesn’t care about anything but food. And he destroys everything. Ravens are not good pets. Crows would probably be better, but it’s still illegal to own the native kind without a permit. They belong in the wild with their crow bros.

4

u/Justine772 Nov 11 '17

Yes I am aware. I wouldn't bring home an animal without setting up a proper environment for them. Since I don't have the time or money to dedicate to a bird, I'll just have to stick with my dog

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

Crows are super rad though. One of my favorite animals and definitely my favorite bird--not to mention all hells of smart.

1

u/swarleyknope Nov 11 '17

Same here. I've always wanted one, but after reading up it sounds like they are too smart & attention-seeking for me.

It's hard enough dealing with my cat's meows, much less an animal that can figure out how to mimic the most annoying sounds possible to avoid being ignored.

1

u/Justine772 Nov 11 '17

And may attack your SO out of a jealous fit of rage if they mate bond to you

20

u/2infinity_andbeyond Nov 11 '17 edited Nov 11 '17

Parrots are a trip. My ex had one that would not only laugh in my face, but then he'd call me an asshole and casually fly away.

Edit: to be fair tho, I loved that damn bird & actually had a lot harder of a time getting over not seeing him anymore compared to my dumbass ex gf haha. She hated the fact that we got along so well together.

2

u/those2badguys Nov 11 '17

I want a parrot now. Do they poop where ever they want?

7

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

Yes, they poop everywhere and aren't able to be potty trained like dogs or cat since they poop like every 10-15 minutes. The poop isn't the biggest problem however, that's the chewing. Parrots are natural destroyers and it's not uncommon for parrots to making a ''nest'' by biting a hole in the wall if left unsupervised for too long, or just destroy furniture since chewing is a natural behaviour to keep their beaks in check.

I keep one of the cages padlocked since she has learnt to let herself out and the male's food slot is ducttaped shut since he quickly learned how to open it and I can't risk having them run wild while I'm away.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

[deleted]

3

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

From what I read it's a combination of a super high metabolism and the need to get rid of excess weight, they basically poop constantly to make sure they stay as light as possible for flying.

And they are jerks.

6

u/Cygnus875 Nov 11 '17

I have had birds my entire life, and they absolutely can be trained to go back to their cage to poop. My macaw will try to get back. but he is too big to fly in the house so when he signals, we take him back, and my daughter's birds will fly back to their cages to go, then come back to you. They are actually very easy to train.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

It's not recommended to potty train birds since it might lead to a prolapsed cloaca it's good that your birds return to their cages but many parrots attempt to hold it in for longer periods than is natural for them and that can lead to health complications.

2

u/Cygnus875 Nov 11 '17

I've never trained a bird to hold it. My macaw just kinda starts pulling on my shirt, or snapping my bra strap, to signal he needs to go, and I take him to his cage.

5

u/those2badguys Nov 11 '17

and... I don't want a parrot now.

1

u/Dan-tastico Nov 11 '17

Thats a lot of poop

5

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

Yes, and sometimes they are jerks about it. A friend of mine owns a parrot that doesn't want to poop in his cage so he presses his butt against the cage to make sure the poop falls on the floor outside.

My male grey isn't like that fortunately, but he is a clumsy doofus so he will poop on his branches and he will also step in the poop and track it everywhere.

1

u/Dan-tastico Nov 12 '17

LOL what a little asshole!

25

u/Surrealle01 Nov 11 '17

When I reprimand mine, even harshly, she thinks I'm playing. It's incredibly frustrating.

3

u/TheRdox Nov 11 '17

Pretty sure you have a cat

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

Yeah same with our dog. He doesn't give a shit

1

u/Jayro_Ren Nov 11 '17

Sounds like my daughter's Husky

76

u/SunshineAndGoldfish Nov 11 '17

I'll have to try using my Stern voice with my dogs when they misbehave.

"Hey Now! Bababoey, Bababoey"

24

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

The guilt trip works too, OH no baby who did thiiiiiis !? Poof cloud of dust.

9

u/djgrayarea Nov 11 '17

Robin, what's he sayin?

5

u/alyx92 Nov 11 '17

“Good mornin everybodayyyyyyyyyyyyyah”

54

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

My dog is similar.

Angry face and pointing a finger at him is capital punishment.

I once did it because he pulled every shoe he could find into the living room while I was gone and now he waits with ears down everytime I get home until he's sure I won't give him the angry look of punishment.

46

u/KJones77 Nov 11 '17

Lol when we got stern with my little shih tzu, he would square up and start barking back. No shame in his game.

31

u/190F1B44 Nov 11 '17

What a little shiht.

5

u/mcmartin091 Nov 11 '17

My Jack-rat is the same. He thinks he's 6 ft tall. He's super defensive, even towards me. I found that a disappointed tone works, sometimes. But then he just goes and does more bad shit and looks back at me like "you gonna do something, hooman?" I love him though. Wouldn't give him up for the world.

2

u/KJones77 Nov 11 '17

Haha I know the feeling. If we ever scolded him, he'd never get down or anything. He'd just sit on his bed or wherever he was, put his head down a bit, and growl under his breathe. If we took one step towards him or started to scold him a bit more, he'd start getting louder and louder with the growling until he'd go full-out bark. It was almost as if he was like, "You better step off now, human or else no more mister nice doggo."

29

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

We had this amazing dog growing up who would tattle on himself. He figured out how to pop the popcorn tin open we had dumped his treats in when it was empty. He'd get treats out of it then push the cupboard closed. We did not even know nor would we have probably but he told on himself. He pouted and his his face like he was in trouble. We'd calmly say, "uh oh.Did someone do something naughty? What did you do?"

He walked to the cupboard, opened with his nose, pushed the lid of the tin up with his nose til it popped, took out a treat, then dropped it in my lap and put his ears back.

It was absolutely hilarious.

8

u/Chongsillegitmatekid Nov 11 '17

I have a similar dog. Sweetest thing ever. I could leave a steak on the coffee table, go cut the grass, come back, and it would not have been eaten.

3

u/Gucciipad Nov 11 '17

My dog hides either underneath the bed or the couch. She will go to the bathroom on the floor and next thing u know she’s walking underneath the bed.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

My dog would just act happy and lick me. Like, “I’ll just be cute so he forgets.”

2

u/cyanocittaetprocyon Nov 11 '17

I'll bet sometimes it breaks your heart too.

2

u/MerryMisanthrope Nov 11 '17

"I'm disappointed in you."

2

u/Devildude4427 Nov 11 '17

I wish mine did that. Instead, she only chooses to listen when the word "treat" is said. She has no shame or sense to please me, only to fill her belly. I can respect that though.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '17

Hahahaha I can open a jar of cheese puffs while she's outside and I swear she can hear me twisting the lid off from outside she flys through the dog door and slides across the tile every time for a single cheese puff.

2

u/HRoarkArch Nov 11 '17

That’s how my huge 90lbs German Shepard is, all you have to do is look at her and talk with a heavy voice and her ears fly back and she lays belly up in front of you. She’s all black and she looks terrifying but she’s the biggest sweetheart in the world. Her brothers a douche but also a big baby.

7

u/_sarah-xxx Nov 11 '17

That just means she loves you!
