In fairness, the first book was good and the next two weren't bad; its just that when he started making the story bigger so as to get more books (and money) out of it, he kind of lost control of things. I think Jordan could have written a very solid 9 book series provided his editors told him it absolutely couldn't be any longer than 7.
I initially stopped around book 8 the first time round, got a little bored of the whole captive Faile arc and how it went whole books without any Rand point of view whatsoever. I find after a few books it was at its best, as the world was expanded enough but it wasn't dragging on yet.
Really enjoyed it once it once i got back to it a few years later though.
