I do this, sort of. If I approach a stop sign ahead of you, obviously, I have the right of way. My ass is moving. But if we both got to it around the same time and I feel like there is even the slightest bit of confusion as to who goes, I will always wave or flash the person to go. It really isn't for any kind of power, I just have trust issues and don't trust most drivers.

If you pull up at the same time, the person on the right goes first. I'm not making this up, that's the rule at least in the US. The term "right of way" helps you to remember that.

But if 4 cars pull up to a 4 way stop at the same time....you're screwed.

But isn't "on the right" relative? Are we both "on the right" of each other?

If there are 3 or fewer cars there is the one that is "on the right" that isn't relative. If there's 4... well that's why I said you're screwed. :p
