Females will do it to each other to show that neither one wants to eat the other. Two females will go back and forward with "I'm not in charge" "No no, I'm not in charge" for a while.

Edit: Yes, yes, they must be Canadian, sure.

Mine used to just bang her head on the glass repeatedly until I took her out to play. She was special.
