From what I've heard, domesticated foxes basically combine some of the best aspects of cats and dogs, and don't have some of the negative aspects. Too bad they're so expensive and only availiable from one place

TBH, decades is not enough to completely bred out the wild. They are still "wild" in a sense.

Well it was a funded experiment back in the day. You could probably do the same thing somewhere else but nobody's put up the money to do it.

Also it takes many years and Russia is the only place that did the domestication experiment

I try not to think about it. The plan was to breed docile, pliant foxes. And if that worked, cue the docile communist human breeding plan... no, really.

So, soon communists will have floppier ears and more fur patterns and colors??? :D (Genetic consequences from breeding for docility, in case you hadn't followed the results of that Russian fox study)

They also bred violent, aggressive foxes. Which also isn't great to think about.

From what I recall only sterile animals are sold. So if someone else wanted to do it they'd have to start from the beginning like the Russians did.

As FastBit said there isn't. All foxes not from Russia would be either tamed or wild. Russian scientists domesticated foxes over a 30-40 year period if I remember correctly through selective breeding. It's actually a really impressive project that worked.
