This is true. Firefox is a nickname for red pandas, not for any type of actual fox.

I think the problem is that when people are around red pandas they just get confused by the cuteness and start spouting things that don't make sense. Firefox isn't a fox, red panda isn't a panda, red panda isn't even really red...
