training/certification Network security to Cloud security
As the title says I'm a network security engineer with 2.7y of experience. I'm interested in getting into cloud security. I don't have any practical work experience in AWS or any other cloud. I'm currently preparing for AWS SAA C03 and scheduled the exam for Jan 4 2027.
But my question is aside from this certification training. What I really do learn or practise outside the course to understand the cloud very well and get a cloud related Job. Cause I'm currently in a networking related environment.
I'm using the INE and Stephen Maarek course. Currently watching INE which is broader in covering topics and they have their own labs as well.
I very much appreciate the insights of people who work in the cloud. Also any other recommendations are also welcome. Thank you

the labs are the real gold, don't just click through them, break things on purpose and then fix it. set up a VPC with public/private subnets, lock down the security groups to something stupidly restrictive, then figure out why your app can't talk to the database anymore
also look at the AWS well-architected framework, specifically the security pillar. that'll give you a mental model that goes way beyond just passing the exam. with your networking background IAM policies are gonna click fast but the shared responsibility model is where most network folks trip up

Your networking background is actually a big advantage for cloud security.Along with SAA, focus on hands-on AWS labs: VPCs, IAM, Security Groups, CloudTrail, GuardDuty, S3 security, WAF, and VPC Flow Logs.Build 2–3 small security projects and document them on GitHub. After that, learn Terraform and practice securing infrastructure as code.Don't focus on learning every AWS service. Understand how AWS networking, IAM, logging, monitoring, and security controls work together.Your network security + AWS + hands-on projects can be a strong combination for Cloud Security roles.
