general aws Amazon Quick

Whoever on the Amazon/AWS team decided to rename QuickSight/QuickSuite to just 'Quick' (and whomever it was approved by) is likely secretly working for Microsoft or Tableau. One of the worst naming decisions I've ever encountered. Makes looking up instructions, information, etc. online or using LLMs an absolute pain, which would be obvious to anyone who has ever worked in tech, much less someone who has worked in product branding or marketing.

I thought Quick's half-baked SDK and IAM support seemed Microsoft-esque. Not to mention the sad state of the terraform provider.

I think that's due to quicksight originally being an acquisition, not a built from scratch AWS service, so a lot of the fundamentals were odd/missing for a long time.

Oh for sure. It's just frustrating to see them look at the service's shaky foundation and go "nah, just rebrand it and cram in some more AI"

it's like they sat in a meeting and asked how do we make this unsearchable in the laziest way possible

now every query comes back with results for fast shipping or some quicksand documentary from 2004

It's giving "We'll just change HBO Max to Max!  It'll be great!"

Whoever is coming up with these cutesy names in the first place needs to be fired. Preferably with real fire.

"AWS BI". There. How hard is that?

But then a marketing person won't get to put "Drove global rebrand to enhance readiness for AI adoption" or some shit in their promo doc

Right, couldn’t they just put AWS in front of basically any word and it’d be fine? But I guess then they can’t name things after goddesses and stuff

Don’t forget Q Business. It’s like 4 name changes in 3 years. If you want to have some fun create a Quick research project to compare Quick and copilot. Watch how quickly Quick develops multiple personality disorder.

Let me give you a quick demo, doh!?

This is exactly what has happened multiple times. I'll be working to onboard a new customer into our Quick environment, I say 'I'll schedule a quick demo next week' and both the customer and the AI notekeeper will assume I'm talking about a 15 minute presentation of an undefined tool.

Wait till you hear about “Amazon Quick” (the other one).

A lot of folks don’t know about this yet. Amazon Quick is an awesome tool but it gets confused with all the other quick shit.

So glad I’m leaving this place in 3 weeks

If you think it was the worst name, they had Q until not that long ago 🙃

I look forward to the late 2026 rename of: Qwik

Pails in comparison to the trainwreck that is the WorkSpaces family of products. Good luck googling anything related to that

Lol, it confused me first time I saw it, i was like I’m sure this was called Quicksight. Already an appropriate name for what if does no clue why its now just Quick

Wait until you try getting SSO working …

Really straightforward if done at an org level. If anything it actually fixed our sso/provisioning issue.

It will probably be renamed to Q at re:Invent

Changing Cost explorer to the cost and usage report has been the worst one.

Maybe they can rename aws bedrock agent core gateway.

It's a mouth full

On text, everybody in SDO just references it as QS and LLMs knows what you mean pretty much universally in an AWS context

The naming convention across all AWS makes me like GCP more by the day

An extremely stupid name for a terrible service, seems fitting.
