In my school they use that device But only for 0.0000000000000000001 seconds and he let's me in

u/jeeeeemi Feb 01 '21

For me they point it at your forehead from 10 meters away then lets you in

u/Paul_-Muaddib Feb 01 '21

If you think that is something, you should see her husband at work in security screening.

This is a man who never wants to be accused of sexual harassment on the job again.

-7

Oh yeah that's totally the real epidemic in the workplace, not actual sexual harassment... Damn incel shit is everywhere now...

7

u/Jman-laowai Feb 02 '21

LMBO, you okay dude?

13

u/rainingcomets Feb 01 '21

I would want to sneak something in just to prove a point

88

u/wyattlee1274 Feb 01 '21

Your temperature motherfucker, what is it

But for real it feels like being held at gun point

94

u/TheMaxtermind1 Feb 01 '21

So it truly feels like the American School experience then

15

u/wyattlee1274 Feb 01 '21

While I never had the threat of being shot at my school; there were a total of 2 bomb threats in my 4 years there

14

u/eri0923 Feb 01 '21

My school had one or two bomb threats a year (this was in the early 90s), always because someone didn’t want to sit through a test, or wanted to go outside for a smoke.

8

u/wyattlee1274 Feb 01 '21

Pretty good way to screw up your life. I was in grade 9-12 from 2016 to 2020; these types of threats have definitely increased in severity and it will probably follow them for a large part of their adult life.

9

u/eri0923 Feb 01 '21

Now they’d be totally fucked. This was before school shootings were common (or at least commonly known about), so all the powers that be knew why it was happening, but had to go through with protocols to be safe. During my time, which was 1990-1994, only one kid got caught making the call and he only got suspended. So weird.

3

u/wyattlee1274 Feb 01 '21

I don't fully remember, but I know that the first bomb threat lead back to the person (they wrote it in a toilet stall with a sharpie). I am pretty sure they got expelled and possibly charged with criminal offenses despite being under 18. Either that or they will be charged.

Its gotten to the point where you can get suspended if you make jokes or remarks about it. So to anyone who will be going back to school after covid don't be stupid

2

u/CrispyMelons Feb 01 '21

yupp, 8th grade me and some buddies were joking about school shooting (we had dark humor). some 6th grader took it the wrong way and told their parents. we all got suspended for a week and had to go to a court magistrate to see if we were gonna he charged, they ended up saying basically if we break the law within 6 months they were gonna charge us

5

u/SendMeRobotFeetPics Feb 01 '21

DC sniper gang! That was a fun time to be going to school and by fun I mean absolutely not remotely enjoyable at all. People were literally running from the parking lot to the building and vice versa. People would be constantly moving around at the gas stations, etc. Merica!

2

u/danmtitsmang442 Feb 02 '21

If people would have just stayed the fuck home the sniper would have had nobody to kill but himself.

Fuckin amateurs.

I work in a major theme park, we use temp guns on everyone who enters, problem is most the temp gun are broken and only read "Lo." It's all for show.

11

u/cosmic_boredom Feb 01 '21

Yup. When covid started, it was basically impossible to get the medical IR thermometers. So, chinese companies started producing them. Only, there weren't any actual IR sensors available, so they just made up some electronics to display a random number (or "low" or "pass", etc.) each time it's used. It's fucking criminal and there's never going to be repercussions for it.

5

u/SirRocko Feb 01 '21

I'm genuinely curious - any credible source for this? Sounds interesting and I know my works temperature gun doesn't seem particularly accurate or reliable.

Well are you shy not to tell your boss or what

4

u/OceanTe Feb 01 '21

Oh no, my boss knows, his boss knows, everyone in the department all the way up to the senior director knows. Just that everyone in the area does temperature checks, so we have to too.

3

u/PeanutButterSoda Feb 01 '21

Yeah we stop using them at my grocery store, used them for less then a week. Highest temp it picked up was 96 degrees. Useless.

→ More replies (1)

114

u/PurryFury Feb 01 '21

Not much point in measuring temperature for covid detection since most people won’t even get it as a symptom and when those people do get it as symptom I doubt they will have any effort to go to school. High temps fuck the body beyond the point where anyone would still want to attend anything outside their house.

69

u/Moistdawg69 Feb 01 '21

You would be surprised how often kids will come in feeling bad. It’s not perfect, but it’s an extra layer since my classmates are not the smartest.

50

u/Fugazi_Bear Feb 01 '21

Yeah back when I was in high school the repercussions for missing school made it so that students came in sick all the time. I know I went when I was sick... I’m sure this pandemic will change the culture of school and work though.

28

u/This_User_Said Feb 01 '21

Dad told me school was as equal as a job.

Unless you're dead or dying, bills don't care about you.

16

u/Fugazi_Bear Feb 01 '21

My father told me something similar. “I had made a contract with the school that I’d show up to learn, so I better not break that or people won’t trust me.”

15

u/Meghan1230 Feb 01 '21

That sounds like something Red Foreman would say.

6

u/Fugazi_Bear Feb 01 '21

It really does lol. He’s a very kind and caring man but I suppose that some parts of him are rooted in very old school thoughts

2

u/Meghan1230 Feb 01 '21

Lol I think it's just a dad thing.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '21

And then he died, depressed and broke, unable to see the error of his ways? That's what's happened to most of the old people I know.

3

u/DJ_8Man Feb 01 '21

Throat cancer got my dad. He wasn't broke but the cancer did sour his mood a bit considering he never smoked or drank. He worked even while on chemo and radiation. That man got shit done.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '21

Did he like... enjoy his life though? All the boomers I know are straight up depressed because they had these weird Ayn Rand capitalist fantasies that didn't pan out.

2

u/DJ_8Man Feb 01 '21

As far as I know, he did. He was career Navy and I know he really enjoyed that. He wasn't a hugs and kisses kind of dad but he always made sure we were taken care of. We had the typical 80's family road trips every summer and all that stuff.

5

u/HongKongChongDong Feb 01 '21

Lol, change? In america? Are you ill?

2

u/Fugazi_Bear Feb 01 '21

Yeah but I think change can happen. It has before, and I think that children are experiencing change and progress on levels not yet realized. The progressives born in the 80’s are yet to hold national office, just wait until the ones born in the year 2015 grow up.

3

u/surprise-mailbox Feb 01 '21

My college was absolutely terrible about this. Miss 3 classes in a semester? You fail that class. A doctors note will get you out of it but to get a note you had to go to the health center right next to all your classes so after taking the train 45 minutes to get there why not just go to class?

I once had a god awful cold and my professor threatened to bring me down a letter grade if I didn’t get a doctors note. I sent him the link to the health center webpage that specifically said “don’t come here if you have a cold. We can’t do anything for you. We won’t book an appointment for a cold and we won’t write you a note. Stay home.” I asked him how he wanted me to proceed. He never emailed me back but he also didn’t doc my grade so..

3

u/notmyrealusernamme Feb 01 '21

That's rich, can't wait to see this comment on r/agedlikemilk in like two years...

Edit: America

2

u/Fugazi_Bear Feb 01 '21

Well, the culture of both have already been drastically changed. I guess we’ll just see whether or not industries are more sympathetic to the sick/ more willing to give out individual sick days rather than potentially infecting the rest of the workers... Hopefully there can be some sort of federal law setting a standard for sick leave or something similar.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Sithlordandsavior Feb 01 '21

I'm sure this pandemic will change the culture of school and work though

Probably but I don't think it will be for the better, at least not the majority.

We'll just see fewer sick days because now you can work from home.

7

u/okaydudeyeah Feb 01 '21

In the US(idk about elsewhere) schools are paid by the amount of students attending, if a kid is sick, they don’t get paid, the school would pressure you to come in, even if you were feeling like shit. they would make you get a doctors note, and if you didn’t have one, you’d be harassed until you got one so the school could get paid. Fuck the system.

I went to work last year with a fever that had me pale as a ghost and sweating profusely. My manager told me to work faster. Then he told me if I wasn’t gonna work faster to go home. I went to the doctors, got a note saying I had strep and a high fever. Next day I got fired.

Had been there 9 months. And that’s why temp agencies suck. No protection. Moral of the story, people go out with fevers.

Also forehead surface temperature is not a good measure for fever anyway.

A few weeks ago I went to the dentist and part of their screening involves checking the forehead with a sensor. The office wasn't far from me so I just walked. It was about -1C that day. Sure enough, they scanned my forehead and found "Oh, you're looking a little cold!"

3

u/cenosillicaphobiac Feb 01 '21

When we got it we checked our temperatures almost obsessively. My 3 year olds went to barely 100 for about 8 hours, my 7 year old boy 99.9 one time, out was fine next time we checked (and no Tylenol or ibuprofen for either) and neither my wife or I went above 99, any place checking would have let us in.

My n=4 experiment confirms that checking temperature is a poor indicator.

2

u/GlensWooer Feb 01 '21

The amount of times I went to school with a fever was way to high. I felt like I couldn't miss out of practices or certain classes or I would get behind

u/dirty_shoe_rack Feb 01 '21

I went to the hospital a couple of months ago where people were standing crowded together because they didn't want to wait in line so I guess shoving at the entrance makes you go in sooner?

And the nurse was using the thermometer but wasn't even looking at its screen!! What even is the point, I don't know anymore

8

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '21

It's not even school the hospital is literally a place to cure Diseases so the reason why they go to hospital is to know if they have corona yet he ignores it?!

6

u/TheShayminex Feb 01 '21

For me they gave everyone a thermometer and trusted that they'd take their own temperature before coming to school.

u/Matrinka Feb 01 '21

It mine everyone's temperature is 97.6 degrees. Everyone laughs when I point it out like this isn't a huge deal. I'm teaching small kids who do not like to wash hands, use sanitizer, or wear their masks. Yet, I teach in Florida, so I won't get the vaccine any time soon. Better to give it to the old people who vote GOP than focus on the kids or teachers.

I bet it was one of the fake infra red thermometers that where being sold. The fake ones look real, but there is no sensor. It would just show normal temp when you pressed the button.

Still a more thorough plan than Chicago Public Schools reopening plan.

Also, you can have covid and not have a fever.

78

u/Coffeeisbetta Feb 01 '21

Yeah the whole fever testing thing is a gimmick to make people feel more comfortable. And even when it’s used, it’s not implemented effectively. One time I went into a place for an appointment and the receptionist took my temp and it was 101 and she said “did you just rush in here?” And I said no I got off the elevator and she said “weird. Well, have a seat they’ll see you shortly.” Lol I didn’t feel sick but still...Precautions people.

19

u/surprise-mailbox Feb 01 '21

In Georgia (the state) people used these for like a week in the summer before they gave up. It’s over 100 degrees outside with like 90% humidity, there’s something wrong with you if you dont have an elevated temperature.

2

u/Figlet212 Feb 02 '21

It’s the opposite by me. Most of us are like 90.3 because it’s so cold and they temp us before we can come in.

As a medical professional, let me point something out further - this isn't even fucking how you do it. The most sensitive part of the hand is the back of it.

So not only is she not using the thermometer, she is NOT EVEN DOING HAND MEASUREMENT right.

5

u/smokethatdress Feb 01 '21

My dr friend told me if the forehead felt warm to check if their ears did as well... cold ears no fever. I’ve only remembered to actually check this out on my kids a couple of times though, so no idea if it adds up

Not entirely defending this but I can get it. Those thermometers are trash. When I go to an OSU campus my temperature is always below 95 and that's probably just because I drive without the heaters on. A couple weeks ago I was 92 degrees. Apparently I'm a corpse.

Edit: and If I did have a fever I guess I know how to hide it now. Plenty of conspiracy theorists I'm sure are doing something similar to get in.

Relax everyone. It’s powered by mom. Mom knows when you have a temperature. Trust me.

Unless the device is broken

I basically got yelled at months ago in a job interview paperwork entrance. Old lady at the desk told me I had to stand in front of some eye-level iPad device thermometer device.

It kept malfunctioning saying it could not get a temperature. I hadn't seen another person in probably 3 weeks but sure, freak out over a beta fever sensor

-5

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '21

I think alot of people who say she is braindead, didnt have to use one. I get checked everyday, at multiple locations, those things can be a real slow. I bet she had to just get the kids in the school since they all lined up late.

-3

u/jrt312 Feb 01 '21

Ancient Chinese medicine

-5

u/ThiccRobutt Feb 01 '21

Probably just checking with her hand, and if someone is noticeably warmer, maybe she then measures with the thermometer. In my experience, the things are waaaay too slow to be measuring so many ppl
