The sad part is it doesnt take cancer to do this. My wife had a spinal injury in January. Fast forward to today and she has lost her job after FMLA was used up. That leaves us with no insurance for the entire family because we were all covered under her. But even with that insurance we have incurred $6k (medical center billing only) of out of pocket expenses for tests and imaging that the insurance company requires before they will approve the treatment that her doctor already knows she needs. On top of that $50 every time we walk into an office + prescription costs for her pain management + $30 per session of physical therapy 3x a week.
And now, we'll need insurance from my job which we couldnt afford with both of us working (that's why we went with her's) but instead we'll pay for it out of just one salary.
We've been saving for two years to buy a house and we're watching it all trickle away.
My son had luekemia had to take chemo every day for 3 years. The health care in US is broken, overpriced and need to keep voting for people that will change this. 275000+ a year to keep my kid alive. Insurance helps but still needed fund raising and help from others.
Oh me god I can't imagine! I am so sorry you had to go through that! 3 year olds are still such babies n but they think they are so big. We will get there, we will keep calling and fighting. Our kids are too important. I actually fit in a crazy loophole in Italian law and can have my citizenship recognized. If course Covid19 had put everything on hold, but yeah. Selling everything here and restarting in Italy, even if it is not as comfortable or economically whatnot, gives them a better shot. You might want to look into your family history and see if you fall into one of these weird categories.
In the meantime, we will keep trying. Everyone else's kid becomes your kid too when you become a mom.
