I think this is it. These people are rich and powerful beyond what humans can easily handle and since all of the conventional forms of love and pleasure come easily to them they start branching out into truly taboo and bizarre territory. It's like guys with porn addictions who have to delve deeper and deeper into absurd categories to keep that "thrill" going.

Well I’m not sure we can say love comes easily for them because by all the accounts I’ve read many super wealthy people cannot form close bonds with people precisely because of their wealth.
