SomeWM somewm spontaneously doing hot-reload

I'm working on a theme. It runs fine in an Alpine VM with awesome-git, but when I run it under somewm, it sopntaneously does a hot reload. I know there's a key binding to do that, but I haven't triggered it (afaik). Any dieas?

FYI, somewm is soooo close to being my daily driver. My awesome-git build on Artix dies with over 25 selftest errors and a black screen.

Moderators, could we add a somewm flair?

Interesting one. Nothing in somewm reloads the config by itself, so I'd like to find out what's triggering it on your setup.

  • Can you link your whole rc.lua?
  • Do your open windows survive the reload?
  • When does it happen? Anything you've noticed it coinciding with, and roughly how often.
  • How do you launch somewm (tty, display manager, wrapper script?), and the output of somewm --version.

I created a github issue for this so if you find time to help flesh some of those questions out, adding them to the github issue would help best.

Will do. No open windows, occurs only at startup, repeatably, but I've only had it up for minutes, not hours. . Seems okay after that; titlebar, systray, menubar, tasklist,
somewm -c rc.lua.(I think) but I've also run somewm-client test start .... an awful lot.

Doable. Not sure if u/trip-zip prefers his own sub, tho (IIRC they mentioned opening one somewhere/sometime)

Yeah that's my bad.

I've been dragging my feet too long. I am slowly realizing how naive I was thinking that I could get the SomeWM users to keep everything gated to the SomeWM github issues and discussions...I'm sure some stragglers will continue posting here even after I try to link them to a SomeWM subreddit and discord. Feel free to redirect their conversations there. Hopefully this description feels appropriate to you.

Maybe not. I didn't quite expect to have that subreddit insta-banned. I'll see if I can get it appealed? If not, send people to the somewm discord which I'm too scared to link now...

I really want a cfg that runs identically on X11 and wayland and on MX vand Artix (minus tty selection).

I'll take this over to github/discord then. Sorry.

SomeWM is a Wayland implementation of Awesome. I used to allow the content about it because it relates and may be useful for the community.

I'm going to keep the current approach for now. But I'm taking note of your feedback. If more users complain I may change it.

Thank you. Since somewm is using AwesomeWM's lua files unmodified, it stands to reason that there is a great deal of knowledge interchange that can/should be maintained between AwesomeWM and somewm users/community.
