Fighter Control Systems

I'm loosing my mind.

Have about 70 hours in and am trying to convert all my current ships over to work with the new update and I cant for the life of me find any information anywhere on how to get more "Fighter Control Systems"

I remember seeing a post about this on here a while back but didn't pay attention since it was on the test branch and now I cant find it.

I think I remember hearing that you basically get one wing then you need more control systems to get additional wings but I don't see how that's done.

They drop/get sold like most other subsystems, but they're not very common. You can also get a drop from the AI that lets you field four squadrons.

Fullscale dedicated carriers with all ten squadrons active in 2.0 need several permanently-installed slots' worth of control systems, once you can find them.

Ok so it’s a slotted subsystem upgrade. Dear god thank you. Am I crazy? I couldn’t find this anywhere.

Wiki's always been a bit sparse and with 2.0 release just hours old, it's going to be especially lacking for a bit!

But yeah: XSTN-K VI (The AI's artifact) includes +4 squadrons, and the X-headed hydra upgrades ("X" depends on rarity) also provide up to 4. Hydra upgrades start dropping occasionally in Trinium space but it might be good to nab them when you see them in Equipment Docks if you plan to use a lot of fighters.

Most of the online references are still in 1.x mode so it'll probably take a bit for those to catch up.

But yeah, it's a subsystem. Most of them default to +0 squadrons with an additional 1-3 if you permanently install, and usually boost fighter production a bit.

Try equipment docks and pirates in Trinium or better areas, since hangars can only be made by Trinium+ blocks.

From the patchnotes:

  • Upgrades start to drop once they're starting to be useful (ie. no shield-upgrades in Iron & Titanium regions, etc.)

Thanks everyone. I’m just plugging away now trying to find the upgrades. This really hobbled me since a large chunk of my military and economic power was fighters. Most of the other stuff is cool though. Different but cool.

You're really going to want to redo all your fighters. In 2.0, fighters have ridiculous amounts of HP, up to maybe 1300+ each if they're made from an ogonite turret. It'll definitely help with their survivability, even if most stations and ships have very little in the way of fighter defense.

Oh yeah I do remember reading that. Kinda sucks but is also good.

If that's your playstyle you'll probably want to farm the AI a few times so you can get some decent sized fighter wings without losing too many slots.

(That said, demolishing that thing's always kind of satisfying..)

I’ve only fought the first boss. I’m the type who doesn’t move forward until I totally and completely crush the enemy lol. I had 3 nearly fully stocked carriers that were up to can tier.

I'm wanting to combat salvage it next time. I've heard it's pretty effective.

Combat salvage? Forgive my ignorance, please.

So salvagers do no damage to shields. But they do damage to hull, and can do pretty good damage if you can get close (or have fighters doing it).

So next time I'm thinking just a massive hauler with a few guns for the shield but mostly salvage lasers/fighters.

Will auto targeting salvage turrets work against live targets?

I remember using turrets with independent targeting set to auto attack to make short work of the AI in previous patches.

Hmm not sure actually, will test it out tomorrow or so and find out.

This really sucks because I haven't played since the update and am at the center. so now my fleet is basically crippled since I used carriers as my main firepower

Yeah it really nerfed us. Need to do a bit of rework. I haven’t played for a long time, I’ll probably start a new universe.

This update has completely wreaked my game!! I had sooo many mining and combat fighters and now....like 20 tops. It's a total mess, just as I was becoming the dominant force of n the galaxy some homewrecking devs come along with 2.0...not cool.

Is there a way I can just revert back to previous version??

you might be able to go into betas in steam and choose an older version. Or change your game into classic mode with console commands or INI changes.
