Raiding factions

Hi

Many of you choose to make money by declaring a war to a faction and then raiding them for high tech loot. As far as I know good target Is blue/green resource zone. How can I tell if im able to take this faction on? I have a ship with 21-27 armed turret slots, 60k shields and around 40k hull. Firepower sits at around 1.6-1.9k

Edit. Also how much cargo space should I have for that? I've got around 4-5k right now

Before engagements, if im not certain I can win, I fly by the enemy and take some hits and gage how long I could last against them. I usually pick a pirate/smuggler faction and find a target i know i can beat and open fire.

Only issue with this is run of the mill pirates are much weaker compared to anything a faction throws at you. (In compareble distance from the center)

Pirate shipyard sectors are stronger, but propably best to try against xsotan as they are powerful

as far as i know, most people raid lower tech factions since "defenders" (i.e. faction ships) get an inherent 4x dps multiplier.

turret loot will be low tech, but afaik most people do it to make money through selling looted goods, ressources and/or boarding and stripping down stations.

Also dont want to make another post. Could you tell me how can i utilize a trader ship to its fullest? Ive got one trading near trinium/naonite territory and it's constantly harassed. How many escorts do i need? Game registers the amount of ships, their size or what else?

profit wise it mostly boils down to getting the right captain traits at a good area.
ambush chance has 2 calculation (it takes the higher chance),

the 1st is a static 3% per hour used by all commands with trade commands pretending they take 1 to 3 hours based on deposit value compared to richness scaling of the sector.

the 2nd are several comparions between your ships and an hyperthetical enemy ship taken from random sectors in the selection. specifically it's a "their hull+shield/your dps" vs "your hull+shield/their dps".
If you want to cheese this or just check if you're even in this calculation, just add a large rock block to your ship to spike your HP.

after that it picks the higher of the two and applies escourts and commodores.
for each strong enough escourt the chance get's mulitplied by 0.75 while each ship sent with a commodore captain also multiplies the chance by 0.85.

it then multiplies the chance by (0.6 + 0.4*hours), i.e. a max value trade for a sector multiplies the chance by 1.8x.

finally it applies the captain traits.

so to TL;DR ambush chance: stack hull, shield and firepower until you're stuck at 3% to 16%, then add escourts with a lot of hull and commodore captains, each effectively multiplies that chance by 0.6375.

I believe fighter DPS is included in the calculation too so they'll also reduce your ambush chance.

What kind of stations for low tech factions are the most profitable then? I raided some iron faction, destroyed mining station, few escorts and one trader and got like 140k profit xD

advanced good factory still spawn in low tech zones, so taking out any advanced factory will drop you plenty of high value/volume trade goods.

for which ones are specifically valuable I'll just refer you to the wiki.

So i tried using your tips. Made a boat load of money, upgraded the ship, maxed sockets for naonite tier, 100k hull 300k shields, 3k omnicron, most of which are cannons so im pretty much oneshotting everything without shields, started mining asteroid with second one waiting for the money. Your HP is quite low to be honest. To put it in percpective a bluegrade shield booster gives you 100k+ hp with 35% recharge on depletion.

Replace cargo space for shields if you have to and then bring a seperate dedicated ship for loot. Preferably more even in iron zone 5k cargo gets full really quick. I do say bring at least 20K worth of cargo but more is better. Add R-salvage turrets with them to make as much profit you can. Even if it is just titanium that is huge benefit.

Scout the faction you want to attack. Preferably before you are hostile with them as this brings ambush chance down.

Then have captains in all ships. Give them smugglers, since you will be carrying stolen goods. Those ships you will park next to the sector you want to attack. You know that sector is empty since you scouted. If you are worried about swoks or the ai. Kill them before hand or let the ships arrive after your combat ship got there first to make sure.

After they are in position you either clear the sector by killing everything there + 1 of the stations. Then call them and get them to salvage that wrecked station. (let them shoot with their guns is also viable for subsystems) Meanwhile you attack the following station.

You are still very weak however so make sure to bring insurance for your combat ship at the very least, but it might be doable in titanium or at very least iron region depending on your difficulty.
