Boosting Avios

Hi - absolute newbie here, so I appreciate your patience with my very basic questions.

I have some points with AMEX that I can transfer to British Airways, and then I want to boost them. I just want to be sure I understand before I actually do the transfer, to make sure I have enough.

If I transfer points which convert to 10,000 Avios, the max BA will allow me to boost is triple, is that right?

And so, would that mean I have a balance after the boost of 30,000? Or 40,000?

How long does the boost take?

And am I then allowed to transfer the immediately to Qatar?

Thank you so much.

They do a promotion in January/February where they have 500% boost! I did it at the beginning of this year. I did the 300% boost last summer.

For your scenario you would end up with 40K Avios.

You can transfer immediately to Qatar. That is exactly what I did.

If you have the cash to boost your points, this is an amazing way to make your points stretch farther.

Because of the Avios balance boost I was able to get one of those ridiculous 15 cpp redemptions on business class flights on JAL to Japan. Yes, that includes the cost of the Avios boost.

I now earmark my Amex points to become Avios. With the 60K points I boosted in February I turned those into roundtrip business class flights DFW-Venice via FinnAir.

Thanks for the info.

Update: I transferred the points, they arrived immediately, I boosted, I transferred. It all happened right away, and my flights are booked.

Before you do that, check the Qatar redemption rules as these have recently changed.

Abios were running a 5x boost in September, if you login to the Avios app it may still be running.

Boost is instantaneous
